We always give a tip! Most of the people who work at the bars, that are waite staff in the dinning room and cabin stewards come from poor backgrounds and typically send the money home to their families so it's good to give a little extra. If you're tight-fisted it does get around the ship's crew, however, if you are giving they do treat you like royalty.

I am happy to share some of my good fortune. These workers come from very poor countries and work so very hard. A dollar here and there means so much to them

Not necessary, but I like to carry several $1 bills to reward exceptional service or well made drinks. I've found it leads to good rapport with the servers / bartenders and personal recognition when I walk into a crowded venue and want a beverage.
