Review summary

This was our first Princess cruise, we've sailed a few different lines but mostly NCL. While I feel NCL do some things a little better, overall, I think we prefer what Princess has to offer. We have booked to sail again on Enchanted in September. I would not book a package again though, I prefer to get my cruise started earlier, arriving to port with my own bags etc. Any questions, just ask :)

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We had a hotel and transfer package with Princess, I wouldn't do this again. We had to have our cases outside our hotel room by 8am and check out by 10am. We hung around the lobby to wait for our ride to port. We eventually left the hotel about 12:30 and got to port about 2pm. Handing the cases off to the baggage handlers took a bit of time but we got checked in pretty quickly. We were too late for MDR lunch but the buffet was quiet at that time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We enjoyed most of our food, I still think NCL does it better for MDR's and buffets. Crown Grill was our favourite, absolutely delicious. Sabatini's was good. Salty dog on the pool deck was great. International Cafe, always excellent. MDR meat a little inconsistent on the cook and some quite fatty cuts. Always had good service and only booked on the day or day before and never had an issue getting a table if we weren't fussy about which venue.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We thought the pool area was nicer than NCL ships we've sailed on. No problem getting seats even on sea days. The retreat pool area was a little windy but nice to sit there for a while.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We were happy with the entertainment, always something to do if you want to. We saw Rock Opera, fantastic, loved it. Five Skies was good up until it stopped because of technical difficulties about 25 mins in. We did some trivia, watched some comedy, a juggler and some great bands and singers around the ship. O'Malleys was great fun.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is beautiful, everywhere is kept so clean. I thought the layout was great, takes a couple of days to get used to it but it's fun getting lost on a cruise ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved this cabin! It was on deck 17 opposite the retreat pool so when you left your cabin you had a lovely view. Balcony was quite large for a standard. We loved the set up of walk-in wardrobe, loads of room.

Ship tip

Get excited, you are going to have a great time!

Ports of call

Istanbul, Turkey

5 out of 5
We did a princess tour of a Mosque, arts museum and town area. The Grand Bazaar was closed but we walked around the area. We really enjoyed this, our tour guide was excellent.

HERAKLION, CRETE, GREECE

5 out of 5
We had to take a bus to/from the ship to the port entrance. We walked along the sea front to the harbour and then walked up through the town. Lovely morning, spent the afternoon chilling on a quiet ship.

Mykonos, Greece

5 out of 5
We got the sea bus for €2 per person each way (or there's a bus) to get right into Mykonos. It's beautiful here, we chilled at a restaurant looking out to sea then got lost in the maze of white cobbled alleys pottering in and out of lovely little shops.

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
We did a Princess excursion to Sorrento (fabulous) and a wine tasting near Vesuvius, it was perfect. We had a few stops, got some lovely photos and Lemoncello tasting. We have been to Naples previously and just wandered around close to port, easy to walk to shops etc.

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

5 out of 5
We walked to a beach close to port. We paid €10 for 2 beds and an umbrella and it was a perfect morning. All-aboard was 1:30pm.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Again we had transfers with Princess. Our flight was at 1pm but our disembarkation time was 7:30am so we sat in the airport for hours. I would prefer to have a leisurely breakfast at the buffet, get a taxi/own transfer and not have too much waiting before our flight. A little bit of confusion when collecting cases. We were just setting off on our coach, drove a few metres, stopped, sat for 10/15 mins, then asked to transfer to another bus. They moved the luggage over. All good otherwise.

@Koplancrew, I was very surprised at the amount of kids on the ship. All I had read before sailing lead me to believe it would be mostly adults.

Was their plenty of teenagers on board a Princess Cruise? I'm nervous my kids won't have friends to meet. My kids are 13 and 16
