Review summary

The cruise was relaxing and enjoyable. I can see why the cruise line receives awards for the food on their ships. The food on Emerald Princess was much better than on the Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Seas. The shopping on the Baja peninsula leaves much to be desired. I enjoyed visiting Cabo, but do not expect to return.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Long line for check in.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was generally excellent every where on the ship, with the International Cafe very convenient for lunch.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We enjoyed playing in the casino and playing Bingo. The dancing and exercise classes looked like fun, but we did not join in. The 'charge to room' option in the casino was a surprise and one to remember for the next cruise. It was very easy to spend too much money. If the charges exceed what can be authorized on the credit card, the cruise card is locked and most extras on board the ship are only charged to the cruise card. It would be better to only play with cash in the casino.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We enjoyed a couple of shows and were pleasantly surprised with a local performance while docked in Cabo San Lucas by the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico. I had always wanted to see them perform.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
The 'Broadway' show was really bad; hard to explain, but the story was weak and the singing shrill.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
State room steward service was above par, and so was the service in the dining room.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It is a big ship. The carpet in our state room always looked dirty and needs to be replaced.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was 182 sq feet and had plenty of room for 2 people. The beds are too soft but everything else about it was adequate.

Ship tip

Bring your gambling cash with you and do not ruin your cruise with the 'charge to room' feature on the slot machines.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5
There should be more around the cruise ships for people to do while waiting to board.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5
I thought the prices were high everywhere we went.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and easy.
