Review summary

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this Disney Fantasy cruise onboard experience. We initially chose an Eastern Caribbean cruise but it was changed due to the damage by Hurricane Irma. We gave it a try in lieu of canceling but will not accept the change in the future. The port choices I will never EVER do again!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Smooth pleasant and swift embarkation, got settled and began relaxing immediately!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Thoroughly enjoyed each of the main dining rooms, great selection of food and drinks. Buffets were set up and kept filled with amazing choices of hot and cold and fresh food!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
My husband and I, along with our grandkids enjoyed lots of pool time. Also we took long strolls around the ship for exercise and attempting to see as much of the ship as possible. The kids enjoyed the nursery and begged to go back plus the slightly older one enjoyed interacting with his peers for craft activities, songs and games.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We saw all three Broadway caliber shows and enjoyed the welcoming lobby greeting, Halloween costume night and celebrations with the Disney characters throughout the ship. Pirate night was another fun night interacting with staff and other passengers.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
As far as we can tell our kids and grandkids had no complaints with the kids clubs or entertainment. They all pooped out before they got bored, actually that word was never uttered. There is Plenty to do onboard!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The entire ships staff we interacted with were exceptionally helpful, courteous, respectful and knowledgeable and made our entire cruise experience a total joy and memorable one! We will truly miss them all! We felt like we were the most special passengers!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Disney Fantasy is a huge ship and designed for maximum ease for passengers to maneuver quickly to all venues in a timely manner. I noticed when areas were clear and available, there was always a quick cleaning crew, big or small, to keep everything in tip top shape.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was roomy with no awkward areas of congestion for my husband and I to maneuver. I really enjoyed the separate rooms, sink w/shower and sink w/toilet, which made prep time for special events a breeze. The bed was heavenly, pillows and mattress! Blackout drapes are perfect to keep that sun away for an occasional sleep in morning. Our refrigerator was perfect size for our drinks and snacks. Closet space and drawers were perfect for our clothes and we were able to slip our suitcases under the bed for storage!

Ship tip

Disney Fantasy is a wonderful ship I would sail on again in a heartbeat, just not on a Western Caribbean itenerary! Ship is fantastic, ports suck big time! Except Castaway Cay - super great fun for the family, best time we had off the ship and nice way to end the cruise!

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
Didn't do any excursion but the ease of getting to the port from the Orlando airport was a breeze and stress saver!

Cozumel, Mexico

1 out of 5
We didn't do an excursion but rented a car to find some Mian ruins that we were told would be a fun thing on our own. Road signs and maps were of no help, very confusing and frustrating. Inundated by people flocking to us to visit their stores or market tables. Basically saw two small ruins for 20 minutes. That was enough time to be eaten/bitten by bugs but swarmed more by souvenir merchants. We could not wait to get back to the ship.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Needed tenders to get to shore. Weather was iffy and I did not feel comfortable using the tenders. My daughter and her family went ashore and stated they were greatly disappointed in the port area and shops. It was definitely not what it was hyped up about. From the ship the shoreline looked inviting but what they could see, repeat of Cozumel, they quickly returned to the ship and crossed this port off their future list.

Falmouth, Jamaica

No planned excursion, this was a quick peekaboo! We managed to get through the port main entrance building and tried to enjoy the shops but the closer we got to the main entrance into the Main Street we actually detected an offensive smell that would not go away, only more intense. My husband and I drew back, shopped at Margaritaville then went back to the ship. Again my daughter, Son-in-Law and their two boys ventured a little further than us but began to feel uneasy of their surroundings and returned to the ship shortly after us. My Son-in-Law later told us he actually heard foul mutterings from the locals on the street, i.e., new name for this port for him is Foulmouth, Jamaica. (Lots of words he did not want his boys to have to hear repeatedly!). Another port bit the dust.

Castaway Cay (Disney Private Island)

5 out of 5
Castaway Cay is simply another Disney masterpiece! No excursions just a wonderful relaxing day at the family beach with an exquisite BBQ lunch provided. When the grands are older I'm sure we will be doing a few excursions with them on our return to this magical island!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Again this process was informative, easy and void of stress.

I hope you at least got to go to Castaway Cay. It is the best day of the cruise. We have been on the Dream twice and planning eastern Caribbean on the Fantasy next year. I really hope itineraries don't change . I will keep my fingers crossed
