Ship: Discovery Princess

Cabin number: GUAR

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

We enjoyed the cruise. Was an older crowd of people, many our age. There weren't many children on the cruise. Overall, we had a restful time and enjoyed the cruise. Might even do it again, but hopefully on a smaller ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dining was good. We were not able to get reserved dining until 8:20, so did the walk-in dining and share a table with others. It worked out okay.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We didn't really do many of the onboard activities, other than watching the ice carving, and a few of the shows.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Shows were okay. They were the same we had seen a year before, but performers were not quite as good as last time. We love "The Voice at Sea" but unfortunately this ship doesn't do that.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward was excellent!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
THe ship was clean and beautiful. Common bathrooms were amazingly clean. We do prefer the smaller ships. The Discovery is very big and crowded, so hard to get around and even get on the elevators.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Princess chose the mini-suite for us. It was much further toward the front and higher (floor 14) than we've ever had before, but it was a good room. It seems to me that we have always had 2 chairs plus the sofa in a mini-suite. This time, we only had the chair at the desk. Wondered if that was a new thing or just our state room.

Ship tip

Be prepared to have patience. There were more people on that ship than in the town we live in. It seemed very crowded. Don't do things last minute, and be patient and polite!

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

We only got off and on the ship here. Didn't go on an excursion. Used Uber to get from the hotel to the ship and that was wonderful.

San Francisco, California

5 out of 5
We did a CruisesOnly Bay cruise and really enjoyed it. It was challenging to get to the place where we had to go to get our tickets for the excursion. But SF is beautiful. Wish we could have done more. Glad we were there 2 days.

San Diego, California

5 out of 5
We did a princess excursion. Staff wasn't really helpful with this. It was pretty good. Seeing San Diego Bay was wonderful. Would have liked more time in San Diego.

Ensenada, Mexico Did not visit port

We had excursion tickets but weren't up to doing that, so missed it, except what we saw from the ship.

Disembarkation

wish other airports would do what Seattle does, where we can check our bags all the way through from the ship to our destination. Helps to not have to go find our bags an get to transporation.
