Review summary

The Diamond Princess is a very large ship with 3000 passengers. The amenities and public areas are spread through out the ship so as not to cause you the feeling of over crowdedness

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
we prefer traditional dining so do not have a comment on the anytime option. The food and decor was excellent in our dining room. The extra efforts of the senior staff to make themselves present at various times in at the dining tables, was appreciated.

Entertainment

Wavelength band was terrific in the explorer lounge. Also Larry Evans - wow you should be in Nashville.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Juan Carlos Vilchisa (Waiter)(and we might add should be at least a Head Waiter) made our dinning experience unforgetable, the dancing, the smiles and attention to even the smallest of details was a joyful experience. Ron Loreto (bartender Wheelhouse) is a wonderful young man who makes it feel like home when you are in his company - thank you Ron (hopefully this young man will be a supervisor soon as he truely does deserve it) . Lorenzo - our sweetheart of a cabin stewart - I don't think there was a request that you would not have been able to fill - your sincerity - smiles and laughter were always welcome any time of the day. My friend you should be promoted so every one would have the experience of meeting you. We hope our paths cross again with ths staff.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
very well laid out exept for the Traditional Dining room - was difficult to find as the corridor did not go through. I feel that one of the "free choice" dinning areas could have been swapped with this for accessability

Cabin / Stateroom

Lorenzo was a perfect addition to our cruise, all requests were met with respect, smiles and quick action. Always clean and neat. Apreciate the option of down pillows as I have a difficult time sleeping on foam or polyester and it was nice not to have to pack my own from home again:)

Ports of call

Santa Barbara, California

Kudo's to this community for going as "green" as they can. The electric buses are cute, the drivers informative and for 25 cents I can not believe the comunity spirit
Don't Miss: walk around the water front and take a bus ride!

As Vancouver Island is our home we were very proud of the staff in customs and all around the area of the water front. The Pedi Cabs were cute and for the first time we took one to the ship - great ride.
Don't Miss: Walking the full water front from Ogden Point to the Empress Hotel -

San Diego, California

A must do is the San Diego Wild Life Park - truely unbelievable. Loved the city wuld love to spend 2 days there.
Don't Miss: Wild Life Animal Park

San Francisco, California

The dock side in this city of wonders is a disgrace. You think with the amount of dollars brought in with the industry - they would have a more presentable ship port docking area.
Don't Miss: Alcatraz

Astoria, Oregon

In all our travels over the years we have never come across a community with more comunity spirit. They were there every place to help you feel comfortable and welcome- if you needed anything - just ask - if you were lost they would direct you. This community would set an excellent example of what hospitality is about - to all other towns and cities. My hat is off to you "Astorians"
Don't Miss: Maritime Museum

Pros: The awesome cruise staff

Cons: nothing - every thing was up to Princess standards

Recommends Diamond Princess? Yes!
