Enjoyable and relaxing. If you are looking for fancy, look elsewhere, but if you want a laid back, relaxing, mini-vacation this is a good choice.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Efficient & organized. We arrived a little later in the afternoon and basically had no wait. Princess embark is usually very well done.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The main dining rooms were nice, specialty restaurant was very relaxed, and buffets a great option if you don't want anything fancy, especially at lunch.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Always plenty of options to stay active on board depending on your interests.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Was pleased with the entertainment provided during this cruise. The Princess singer/dancers were solid, the small orchestra excellent, and guest entertainers Ashlie Amber had a fantastic voice & the comedian was so popular you usually had standing-room only for all of his performances. Not Broadway, but not bad!
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Overall the staff was good and always willing to assist. However, our stateroom steward (Glenn - Baja Deck 11) was excellent! He kept the room spotless and was always very cordial and willing to go above and beyond what one would expect.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Crown Princess is an older ship, but the crew/staff kept it very clean throughout.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Princess rooms are smaller than some lines, but sufficient; after all for most cruisers that take a balcony or lower tier room time spent in the room is usually for sleeping. If you want more space book a suite.
Ship tip
Overall the Crown is a nice size, not too big, not too small, and comfortable for the number of guest passengers. Several pools and numerous areas to just kick back, unplug, and relax.
Ft. Lauderdale is a very busy area, but we did visit the local beach and take an airboat ride through the everglades. The beach was crowded and not really an easy beach to walk on, but if you just want to say you walked in the ocean it gets the job done. The airboat ride was a lot of fun and you get to observe several different species of wildlife. So, it was well worth the price.
We took a history/cultural tour in Grand Turk, an island we have visited before, but usually stayed on the ship or beach. The hurricane truly devastated the area, but the people are proud and are working towards restoring the island. If you are looking for fancy, this isn't it, but if you want to get an idea of what the locals are experiencing after the hurricanes take the time to look around and buy some coconut water from a street vendor.
Amber Cove is beautiful, actually reminded me of Gilligan's Island (For those of you that remember), although we spent for little actual time at the cove. There was a lot of options here depending on your interests and it is definitely worth taking the time to get off the ship and explore Puerto Plata. We visited a rum factory, the local cathedral, and had lunch at a nearby local restaurant enjoying each stop.
The disembark was great, well organized and right on time. The only negative was our luggage was placed in the wrong zone, so it took a little extra time to find. However, the overall exit, gathering luggage, and passing through customs was quick and easy.
