Review summary

We started off the cruise being separated from our party of 8 for our dining table. Since there are four children in our party - this was a huge disappointment! The food was average and the presentation was average. The desserts were below average. Poor selection and quality. The cabin was good size with a balcony, which was a nice change for a cruise. Didn't care for the "smoking" sections that seemed to change daily on the ship. Sometimes you didn't smell it but for the most part you did....non-smokers would be disappointed. Costa has a new policy for gratuities, which is automatically charged $11.00 per person - per day. And I ask...."if it is manditory, TIPS, which means "to insure prompt service," is shot out the window. Service was below to average possible a result of this policy. The daily activities were boring and there was only about 6-8 all day long. Usually, 1 - 2 opportunities to play bingo - yet the cards were a steep $10.00 a card. The afternoon tea was delightful. And lastly, the ports....The port stops didn't allow much time for activities..... You truly must choose only one thing....or be disappointed when you realize you've run out of time and have to be on the ship an hour prior to departure.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Not too many choices and the desserts were poor tasting. They messed up our family dining request and our party of 8 were split up for dining. This was not a good situation all week since 4 of the 8 in our party were children.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Not a good mix of activities or interesting choices....

Children's Programs

My kids didn't want to return to the kids area. They said the staff was "mean" and was very demanding. The kids center is at the front of the ship and when the sea is rough, they require all the children to stay seated so they don't get hurt.... My children only got sea sick when in the kids center.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Not very friendly and staff seems to have difficulty communicating.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Rooms were good size and have many affordable balcony rooms.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Size of room was great although, this cruise line does not do the towel animals or candies on your pillows for turndown service.

Pros: Cabin Size

Cons: The desserts.

Recommends Costa Atlantica? No.
