Review summary
This is the most beautiful ship I have cruised (and I have logged over a dozen cruises). The Solstice is worth cruising just for its beauty and elegance. The dinners were great. We dined in Blue and the three specialty restaurants and they were high-end restauarant quality. Room service was terrible - don't order. They didn't show up once, and when they did, the food was cold and items were always missing. Guest services was good but you will always wait on hold for them. The entertainment was bad--the theater shows were really bad and the everyday activities were just ok. The hot-glass show was excellent. The spa was good, not great, but it is large and has a nice gym and definitely try the Persian Garden! We were in Aquaclass and loved the room's bathroom and shower. The pool(s) were very small and awfully crowded with people (kind of gross actually) and like all ship, good luck finding a lounge chair. The lido deck food was not good. Pizza, and grille items were good but the other food items were not great and the Lido cafe is notably small compared to other ships. It is overcrowded. For food I recommend dinner, and all the speciality restaurants including the crepe place. The lounges and bars were very nice and offered good variety. Some closed a bit early. Overall the staff was friendly and competent.Ship experiences

Alaska is beautiful and this reads like you had a perfect cruise. Why only 3 of 5 stars?

We just returned from an Alaska Inner Passage cruise on the Solstice and loved it! We had room service for breakfast twice and it arrived exactly when we requested it on the card we hung outside on our cabin door the night before. Our cabin was kept neat and spotless by Malcolm. Food in the Ocean View Cafe was very good and the Cafe was HUGE; we liked the way the various ethnic foods each had a different station, therefore not one long line. The Mast Grill was outside by the pool and you could get hamburgers, hot dogs and Alaskan King Crab legs! The Grand Epernay where we dined each night except twice, was great! Our table of eight people got along great and though our seating was 8:30pm, we did not leave until 10:30pm due to talking! We dined at two specialty restaurants: the Murano which we did not like, and Tuscan Grille which we loved. The ship sailed with full capacity of 2,850 passengers and crew of 1,2000. It never felt crowded! Lots of seating in common areas and around bars. The captain of the ship was wonderful and hilarious to boot! His funny daily messages were eagerly awaited; his presentation on the building of the Solstice was both informative and beyond funny! His performance at The Liars Club program was the hit of the show! We enjoyed our cabin and spent time on our balcony watching the beauties of Alaska sail by. We loved our cruise and the Solstice......We did not want to leave the ship!
