Review summary

This was our first cruise experience and probably our last. While we mainly booked this trip for the ports of call, the on board experience came with disappointing activities and was far from a family friendly cruise like we were told from . We were also sold to upgrade to Concierge Class and we experienced zero benefit for the added cost. The ship was modern and the crew were lovely. I think this will be our last cruise experience for a while.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Fairly easy and organized

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Buffets got boring and the speciality restaurants were expensive for the experience. Room service food was awful.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Onboard activities were geared towards older passengers. The Celebrity app daily activities had misleading information that did not match the actual activity. For example, the app listed Art Hour - watercolor, knitting, etc. and we showed up and it was copies of paper and a few colored pencils. Disappointing activities!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Performances were enjoyable.

Children's Programs

2 out of 5
Very few children on the cruise, so we didn't send our toddler to Kids Camp.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Waiters very friendly and our room steward was amazing.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Modern

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Comfortable room, not worth it at all to upgrade to Concierge class. We saw zero benefit.

Ship tip

If you are ready to travel with all retirees and elderly passengers than choose Celebrity.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

3 out of 5

Oslo, Norway

4 out of 5
Easy to get into town.

Copenhagen, Denmark

3 out of 5

Tallinn, Estonia

Stockholm, Sweden

Skagen, Denmark

2 out of 5
Confusing way to get back to the ship through the port and ship yard. Did an excursion and it was supposed to have 3 stops and only had 2. Disappointed in the one shore excursion we did.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Long wait to use the elevators to disembark.

Poor research leads to poor experience. Did you book direct or through an agent? Should have got better advice and the itinerary wasn't exactly kid friendly. As others advise, pick ships with a decent array of amusements for kids.

I would agree that Celebrity is less of a “kid-friendly” type of cruise, but I will say that my experiences this year on the Silhouette and Equinox was definitely not just retired folks. Much younger group, but not many children. If I had young kids, I would definitely try another cruise on a cruise line that has an amusement park on the top deck. That’s usually a huge indicator of a “kid friendly” ship.😁

Appreciate your comments, but it is important to do your research for all vacations

Appreciate your detailed feedback. Sorry your first cruise didn’t meet your expectations. Cruising isn’t for everyone and there’s nothing wrong with that. At least you tried it and may try again if the situation is right.

You shouldn't blame the cruise company for your lack of preparation. A little research would help to realize that the Celebrity is mostly for adults, what's the difference between concierge class and regular balcony room, etc. If you decide to give cruising another try do some homework and you'll have a great time. Good luck.

Celebrity is sort of geared for older crowd, however the experience from our first cruise in 1999 with Celebrity has greatly changed. We still choose Celebrity over other lines but we try and keep our expectations low and gratitude high so to speak. Years ago they didn't need or have Specialty Restaurants because the food in the MDR was superb. The entertainment was outstanding as well as service. It had an elegant flair to it which we enjoyed. For me I love cruising and glad I have that opportunity. All the best to you in the future. I would recommend Disney Cruises, although expensive it maybe what you're looking for.

Too bad you didn't do any research before you booked or you would have known that cruiseline caters to an older crowd. Give cruising another try with a different cruiseline, such as Royal Caribbean or Carnival.
