Review summary

Alaska cruise Southbound on Millie in an S1 Skysuite. Great crew. First Celebrity cruise. June 2 - 9. Took the train from Anchorage to Seward. Incredible experience. Easy walk from the train to the ship. Celebrity took the luggage right at the Anchorage train station and trucked it down directly to the ship and the cabin. Luminae dining every day. Leo the sommelier in Luminae was top notch pairing wine with meals. Daily Alaskan crab platter on the pool deck. Hot tubs outside were just lukewarm, kind of there for show but in the Solarium they were perfect. Some shows were great and enjoyed the talk by Captain Dave from the crab boat Aleutian Ballad (Deadliest Catch) and Milos the naturalist. He talked a little too much while at the Hubbard Glacier, I was enjoying listening to the Glacier crack and calve but otherwise very informative. The captain got us very close to the Glacier. Some of the shows were not my thing but a lot of people seemed to enjoy them so that's just personal taste. We were lucky with pretty good weather by Alaskan standards. Cabin 6146 right near the stern. No issues with motion although a few folks did seem to be getting a little queasy on the open ocean dart towards the inside passage. Rough seas only for an hour or two. Had a few minor things like three light bulbs burned out in the cabin and a noisy fan but they were quickly addressed. Only tried the Oceanview Cafe buffet once or twice and it was okay. Not great but not poor either. Great martinis at the martini bar that features a cool frozen bar top. Great bar service everywhere. Cosmos bar got busy at times but no worse that any crowded club on land. Internet came bundled with the cruise and it was spotty at times and slow at other times. Satellite TV had limited channels due to location so only a handful of channels. Excursions included helicopter to the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, White Pass train in Skagway, whale watching in Icy Straight Point and Misty Fjord cruise in Ketchikan.

I just booked Navigator OTS for the Christmas holidays. Skipping a suite, more of a direct comparison to CCL on similar sized ships. Love Oasis class, but they are in their own league. Alaska is a different market, most lines run older and smaller ships there so I should try Celebrity in the Caribbean on a newer ship. Too many ships, not enough time or $$$.

I'm in search of a new line. I've pretty much moved on past CCL. I'm not sure Celebrity is it for me just now, maybe in a few more years. Tempted to try NCL again (last NCL was a long time ago). Doing RC Harmony in September but need to experience a mid size RC ship. I spoke to various people on this cruise and sought feedback on other lines but you need to be careful when people last cruised. Things are changing in the industry and someone's five year old experience on XYX may not be accurate of today's experience.

So what cruise line would you say you recommend up until now?
