Review summary

After reading several negative reviews here about the Millennium, I wasn't sure what to expect. I can only agree with the wisdom of Marie D. from FL; people who want to complain will find something to complain about no matter what. Sailing on the Millennium was a completely wonderful experience. Having sailed on Renaissance last year, we were looking for elegance and a certain level of service. We were not disappointed. The Millennium is a beautiful, elegant, well-designed ship with lovely open spaces and cozy intimate spots. The service was over the top; every staff member we came in contact with made us feel special. They were ready to do whatever they could to make our cruise a happy one.Unlike what I read in reviews, embarkation was not a nightmare. It went very smoothly, and we were actually on the ship a half hour early. Disembarkation was very chaotic, and getting a cab at the port was a disaster, but certainly not bad enough to ruin a lovely 10 day cruise. There was a great variety of things to do. Although we never went to the shows, we loved the live music available, from big band to a classical quartet. We also really enjoyed the music stations available on TV in the cabins; a very nice touch. The food lived up to its reputation as being one of the best cuisines at sea. There was a large variety at the buffets, and as soon as a tray was half empty it was replaced with a full one. The specialty buffet lunches, the afternoon tea, and the poolside midnight buffets were nice extras. The food in the main dining room was always excellent and beautifully presented. I did not think it was too long between courses; you were there to enjoy, not have a meal at a drive-thru. Our waiter and his assistant were absolutely delightful, and really added to our enjouyment every evening. On the last day we overheard people filling out their comment card. They thought the hallways were "narrow and claustrophobic," the Grand Foyer was "sterile" and the ship lacked "a distinct personality." Get real. These people were just plain miserable. Don't let negativity sway you from sailing this ship. We loved every minute, and would gladly sail the Millennium again. We enjoyed the ship so much that we didn't care if we stopped in port or not!
