Review summary

Mercury caters to the older customer. The ship itself is old and has no activities like the new ships. It was nice but boring for my husband and I. (30's) The big thing onboard was bingo (which you pay for). The daily activities onboard were boring as well. Again, they are catering to the elderly customer. Not sure if it was bc of the destination or bc of the ship itself. However, if you don't want all the cool new activities on the new ships then you might like mercury.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was average at best. Sometimes not edible. Variety was ok. Dinner time was alittle late. I would have preferred 8 instead of 8:30. No private restaurants onboard so its either the main dining room or the buffet.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
As I described earlier boring. They did have a comedian who was very funny. The shows performed onboard by the celebrity staff was ok-good. Nothing spectacular. They had a lot of trivia challenges and we went to all of them and there was about 10 max at each one.

Service and Staff

Everyone was very nice. Guest relations-nice, tours manager-nice, stateroom attendants- nice, waiters- nice.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The size was good. It was clean and had nice lounge areas. Accesibility was not so great. If you try to get from one side to the other on deck 6 or 7 you have to walk down to deck 4 or up to deck 8. Very annoying. Reason being-dining room.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Room was alittle small like all ship cabins. The bathroom was ok. Powerful shower which was nice. Very comfortable bed. It was always clean and they turn down the bed w/ a chocolate on your pillow. No towel animals (if you've cruised on RC or carnival)

Ports of call

Juneau, Alaska

Much bigger port. Jewelry stores and authentic alaskan stores in town. The Hanger was a great restaurant for lunch! All the locals and ship personel eat there. Went glacier walking for our tour. It was amazing! Helicopter ride was great. Our walk was for 1 hr. and it went by very fast. Should've done a 2 hour tour.
Don't Miss: Glacier walk & the Hanger Restaurant

Sitka, Alaska

Favorite port. Very quaint little town not bombarded w/ jewelry stores. Had no time to eat bc the port time was very short. We did the sea otter tour which was nice. Saw lots of wildlife and the price was reasonable. Nice history to see in Sitka.
Don't Miss: The town

Ketchikan, Alaska

Looked like the carribean only cold. The only stores in port are jewelry stores. Ket. is very small and can be done in 30 min. You must go on a tour there or be bored. Did not eat there bc we had no time. Port time is very short.
Don't Miss: Went to Neats Bay to see bears. We saw a few. Nice tour but not worth $$$. The seaplane was cool.

Pros: the destination

Cons: the mercury ship
