Review summary

Our time on board Mercury was a lovely experience. It's very comfortable with plenty of amenities. The ship is old and it shows. She needs a makeover. While all ages were aboard and activities were provided for teens and children, not a lot was done to control them. Some teens took over elevators and rode them up and down or blocked doors to keep them from moving as a game. This was observed several times by different passengers and reported. Most of the kids were very well behaved though.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The assigned dining was a bit of a turn off; as was the dress code requirements. We chose to eat at the pool deck buffets most of the time. Food quality and quantity was very good.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Lot's of options to keep busy during long days at sea.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The crew were exceptionally helpful no matter what was asked of them.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was very clean and a continuous effort was put forth to keep it that way.

Cabin / Stateroom

We were Starboard towards the prow which was an excellent location. Staterooms are very quiet. The room was clean; although we found clothing left behind by a previous passenger. Our steward was excellent.

Ports of call

Ketchikan, Alaska

Not nearly enough time in this port. 1 to 7:30. We did the rainforest which was definitely worth the trip. We would have liked more time to explore the town as less than two hours wasn't nearly long enough. There is too much to see that we missed.
Don't Miss: The rainforest - we got to see lots of bears!

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did the Mendenhall Glacier Canoe and Salmon Bake - it was awesome. We had perfect weather. There wasn't a lot of time to spend in town due to the short time in port, but what we saw was lovely - it's a fairly small town and very picturesque/
Don't Miss: Definitely due an excursion in order to see the area. It's beautiful.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
The White Pass Railroad ride is a wonderful experience. The scenery is breathtaking. Our excursion was 8 hours, so there wasn't time to do anything else.
Don't Miss: White Pass Railroad for sure.

Pros: The service personnel were very open and friendly and did everything they could to please.

Cons: The old girl is getting a little worn around the edges.
