Review summary

Overall, we had a great time. As with all our cruises, there were some glitches, but we didn't allow them to put a damper on our vacation.

Embarkation

Excellent. Very quick and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We sailed with Celebrity for the first time in 2022. The food on the Equinox was out of this world--like eating at a 5 star Michelin rated restaurant every night. By comparison, the food on the Edge this year was a disappointment. Mind you, it wasn't bad. It just didn't measure up to our prior experience. We were excited by the idea of four MDRs, each with a different regional focus, and thought there would be great variety. For this reason, we did not book any specialty restaurants. In practice, though, there were only three appetizers and entrees from the region, and these never changed. The Celebrity Signature dishes (also three appetizers and entrees) did change nightly, but this was not enough to generate sufficient variety. In the end, it did not matter which of the four restaurants we went to--they were all the same. And all of lower quality than on Equinox. The buffet was good for breakfast and lunch, but disappointed the two times we went there for dinner. We also ate lunches at Eden Cafe, which were very good.

Café Al Bacio

5 out of 5

We enjoyed relaxing at this venue in the evening with cappuccino/tea and cookies, while listening to the music in the Grand Foyer.

Onboard Activities

A lot of trivia, which we like, but not a lot of variety.

Eden

5 out of 5

Wonderful space for relaxing and listening to music.

The Meeting Place

5 out of 5

We particularly enjoyed the enrichment lectures by Bill Lee, and wish more cruise lines would offer similar programs.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We went to one of the song/dance/acrobat shows. But these are getting repetitive and tiresome to us. We also took in the magician show (same act we saw on Equinox). We saw the comedian (Ralph Harris) twice, and he was hysterical, especially the racy late night show. The musicians at Eden were exceptional.

Children's Programs

Our children are adults.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
We raised some minor issues with Guest Relations, but they were not interested in helping, and the issues were never resolved. On the plus side, virtually everyone else was excellent, especially waitstaff and our steward.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
First, I know that reviewers are split 50/50 about the infinite verandahs. We loved it! We did not mind the time or noise raising/lowering the window. And we were able to see out just fine. But it really made our cabin feel much larger than it was. The ship is clearly designed to appeal to an older crowd. And we are older, so we enjoyed it. The one disappointment was that there is no place on the ship that allows you to see ahead of the ship unless you are a retreat member. It kind of made me feel like a second class guest.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin size is excellent, and feels even bigger with the infinite verandah, The color schemes are pleasant. There is a huge amount of storage space. The bathroom shower is large.

Ship tip

Purchase specialty dining. The MDRs will not provide top quality or variety.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Embarkation and disembarkation are a breeze. Fort Lauderdale as a destination is nothing special.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

We had been to St Maarten in 2019, shortly after it was devastated by hurricane. It was really nice to see how well the island has recovered since. We made it to Orient Beach, which was closed last time. This was nice and relaxing, but it is being over run by seaweed like many of the Caribbean islands.

Castries, St. Lucia

Love this island. We took an excursion to the Tet Paul Nature Trail, which offers amazing up close views of the Pitons. Great scenery throughout the island.

Bridgetown, Barbados

Had a catamaran excursion which took us to two snorkeling sights. Lots of fish, turtles, stingrays and a shipwreck. Great fun!

St. John's, Antigua

A nice island. Went to Shirley Heights and Nelson's Tourist Trap, before relaxing at a beach.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

Also love this island. This time we took an excursion by power boat to Nevis and spent the day on the beach. Great time!

Disembarkation

In 2019, we waited over an hour for customs, as there were only two agents checking passports. This time, we only needed to get our faces scanned for facial recognition. We got out in seconds. Literally.
