Review summary

Overall we loved our cruise on the Celebrity Edge. The only over hyped experience was dinner at the Magic Carpet.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were onboard within 10 minutes of arriving at the pier.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Main dining rooms were good. Specialty restaurants were outstanding! Luminae has some of the best food on the ship but it is for suite guests only. Buffet was above average.

Fine Cut Steakhouse

4 out of 5

A great experience but I have had better steak at Capital Grille and other fine steakhouses. The service was outstanding and I would still recommend this dining venue even though the steak was good, but not great.

Eden Café

5 out of 5

Eden was a very interesting and unique dining experience. Five courses and small portions. For each course you are giving two choices. The waiter recommended that my wife and I order one of each so we could taste all ten dishes. The food was very good and the entertainment was a little bit like a Cirque de Soleil performance. Both of our kids (14 & 18) enjoyed the food and entertainment as well. I would recommend experiencing this dining venue.

Le Grande Bistro

5 out of 5

Only open for lunch and for take out. $20 cover charge per person unless you have the free specialty dining package. Even if you have to pay, it was worth the cover charge. Also, Le Grande Bistro is where Le Petite Chef is severed in the evenings.

Luminare at the Retreat

5 out of 5

Daniel Boulud signature appetizers, entrees, and deserts are a must. You cannot go wrong.

Rooftop Garden Grill

5 out of 5

Outstanding burgers! Well worth the cover charge.

Blu

3 out of 5

Dinner at Blu was just ok. The dishes are created for the Aqua Class Suites so they are healthier but a little bland.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The Thermal Suite in the Spa is amazing! Incredibly relaxing. It has a Himalayan Sea Salt room, an Infrared Sauna, Rainfall Waterfall, Steamroom, and a Crystallarium. However, there is a daily or weekly charge for guests unless you book an Aqua Class Suite.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our cabin steward, Wilfredo, and our Butler, Stevo, were both exceptional. Jerome, the bar tender/waiter in the Retreat went above and beyond several times throughout the cruise. Overall, the entire staff was very well trained and informative. Not one bad experience. Credit to the senior staff members onboard.

Ship tip

Book a suite so you have access to the Retreat area and Luminae. Luminae had some of the best food on the ship. The Retreat is an exclusive area of the ship for suite guests. It has its own pool, hot tub, a huge outdoor sunning area. Plus a private bar and lounge.

Ports of call

La Spezia, Italy

4 out of 5
Did the Cinque Terre tour. We visited 3 of the 5 villages. You must take a train or a ferry to get to any of the villages in a decent amount of time. It take hours by car due to the remote villages. They are all situated on the mountain side over looking the ocean. You must be able to climb a lot of very steep steps in order to take this tour.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
We loved Barcelona. We did a guided bike tour which took us to all of the most popular attractions. While we didn’t get to go inside the attractions, it was a great way to see all of them in four hours. And, our tour guide was very informative. Also, Barcelona is a very bike friendly city with bike lanes that have green and red street lights with a green and red light in the shape of a bike.

Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France

3 out of 5
No difference than Cannes or Nice.

Ibiza, Balearic Islands

4 out of 5
Visited the caves in Ibiza. A cool experience.

Valencia, Spain

4 out of 5
Did a panoramic city tour. A beautiful place to visit.

Marseille (Provence), France

4 out of 5
Beautiful views from the scenic high points.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very quick and easy. Did not have to fill out and customs or immigration paperwork as we did not need to go through customs and immigration. This was on the sailing from Barcelona to Rome.

The reviews I keep seeing make me glad I was unable to get reservations for dinner on the Magic Carpet.
