Review summary

The Celebrity Edge is a beautiful ship. I felt like I was at a luxurious spa resort hotel and truly enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the ship. Food was wonderful, with lots of choices. However, I will probably never cruise on her again. I'm more of a traditionalist, and feel this ship is designed for the new Millennials and people that are more liberal in what they want in a cruise experience. I cruise because I love the feel of a traditional cruise ship, and Celebrity Edge is definitely not a traditional ship. This was my first Celebrity cruise, and I will definitely try them again.

Embarkation

Embarkation was quick and easy. Used the app and was on the ship in about 10 minutes!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All of the food was delicious no matter what restaurant. From the buffet, to the dining rooms, to the specialty restaurants; they were all good. I loved how each main dining room had a special themed restaurant, but you could also choose from chef's favorite and the usual favorite fare. There was always plenty of food choices. I don't drink alcohol, and was very pleased with the premium non alcohol package. I had so many choices to choose from.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Pool area and solarium were wonderful The fitness center was top notch with high end equipment. I do feel there should have been a greater variety of activities during the day. Few choices that I was interested in. However, I did find the ship an excellent place for relaxation and forgetting the cares of the world. The majority of the ship had relaxing music and infused aromatherapy. The spa and thermal room was wonderful. Unfortunately, it can become quite costly, since all services are ala carte. Shopping is all upscale and high end. None of that cheap tee shirt and jewelry stuff!

Entertainment

1 out of 5
I did not care for any of the entertainment. I watch the first stage show, and left the second one shortly after it began. Didn't understand or care for the Eden show at all. The best way I can describe it is weird and way off the wall. I'm sure there are those that enjoyed it. I just wished there could have been choices for those that might desire a type of entertainment that was more main stream. Like a evening of contemporary jazz.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff and service was top notch!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship has contemporary décor and cutting edge technology. Ship was clean and well maintained. Unfortunately, there few maps of the ships layout, so you had to depend on your cell phone since they were on the app.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Had an infinite veranda, which is a new concept. Cabin seems much larger, but personally I missed the openness of a balcony. I felt I was basically in a room with a very large window that opened. Be careful booking cabins on the 6th floor. Most cabins are partially obstructed. Had views of the life boats and the Magic Carpet. I did enjoy sleeping with the window partially open and hearing the ocean waves. Tons of storage and outlets, which is a plus in a cabin. Bathroom was very roomy, and also had lots of storage.

Ship tip

When you board the Celebrity Edge, just know this cruise ship is like no other cruside ship you have ever been on. It is loaded with tons of new technology, art, and vibes.

This was the quickest disembarkation I have every had. If you have a passport, they use facial recognition, and your cleared within in minutes.

I am booked on the EDGE for next December and am enjoying all the different reviews. I’m hoping Celebrity provides us with either a paper deck plan or adds more maps. My cell goes in the safe as soon as I get into my cabin and doesn’t come out until the end of the cruise.

We were on the Dec 9th departure too and agree completely with every observation you make. She is indeed fabulous but Solstice class wins for us by a margin. The ‘Magic Carpet’ was so windy too!

I have my reservations about booking the Edge. I too like the more traditional ships. The Solstice class are my go to. I've done 13 Celebrity with 3 more booked.
