First and Last Cruise with Celebrity by DaytonaChris

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Constellation / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We went on a four night cruise from Miami to Key West and Cozumel, Mexico. This was our first (and last) cruise with Celebrity. The ship (Constellation) was old, but recently refurbished. We had a balcony stateroom. It was clean and modern. No problem there. The port stay in Key West was only about 4 hours. That's a bad joke. What can you do or see in 4 hours? There are several reasons we would never cruise with Celebrity again: 1. The nightly entertainment was lackluster at best. Terrible bands (none of them played anything from the current century) and most of the people left after hearing them for a short time. There was no real adult oriented entertainment as one would find on Carnival or Royal Carribean. Just a little action at the disco after 12 PM. 2. The staff seemed uphappy and for good reason. They don't get individual tips but share in a pool, so there is zero incentive. The bar tenders were slow. We asked several younger staffers how they felt about their jobs and none of them had much of anything positive to say. Unhappy staff => unhappy customers. 3. Celebrity appears to be on a jihad against smokers. I'm a cigar aficionado and my girlfriend enjoys an occaisonal smoke. We were warned not to smoke on our balcony or be fined $250.00. We ignored this as did many other surprised guests. I'm going to ask about this in the future. If the other cruise lines do the same thing, guess we won't be crusing anymore.

our cruise by BobbyTrail

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Celebrity Constellation / Destination: Caribbean

This was our first experience with Celebrity and had it been our first cruise we might not be doing another. The ship was ok, pretty clean but extremely crowded. After boarding we were given complementary champagne and directed to the lunch buffet before sail away. The food was ok, nothing extra but we weren't really looking for it at this time. After sail away we did the drill and settled in for our 5 day trip. There were 4 couples traveling together and we had made prior plans to have late seating for dinner at the same table. After we found our way to the staterooms we found our dinner arrangements to be wrong and we were not even at the same table. We had to go and wait for an opportunity to get this fixed, they did but told us we needed to prearrange next time, we assured the guy we had but it seemed like he really did not believe us. Two of the couples with us had never cruised before so we had really built up the food service and quality of food on the ship. At dinner that night the menu was at best somewhat bland on choices pretty standard choices, the appetizers and salad choices were ok but the entrees we nothing really exciting, we attributed this to the first day and had hopes of better choices to come. Breakfast the next morning was more or less like a shoney's breakfast bar, scrambled eggs, three meats and watermelon, cantaloupe and pineapple. We would have the same breakfast every morning. Not a strawberry could be found anywhere! They did have what they called an omelet chef who took scrambled eggs and added your fixings and called it an omelet. No special pastries, no pancakes, no French toast no quiche... plenty of breads to toast, like I said very basic. Even on the last day of the cruise it was a brunch with the same stuff served. Worst part of the whole breakfast experience was you waited in line for everything! Way to many people and not enough serving area, really bad on shore excursion days. Back to dinner the staff did a good job being friendly but the quality of food selection was very standard, seafood was trout or salmon grilled, or the basic steak ( Had a steak on night I ordered it medium, for well done and so tough I could not eat it, the waiter offered to get me another but buy the time everyone else was about finished) Deserts were pretty good with the usual stuff. This is the first cruise I have ever been on when we didn't have an abundance of seafood selections including lobster. Overall food was very ordinary, not at all like previous cruises we have been on. Lunch was like breakfast, standard sandwiches and limited meats and vegetables I kind of think they are trying to push you to towards the higher paid restaurants for a decent meal. As far as the staff goes, Celebrity boasted of having a high number of employees per passenger, might be however in is not in the customer service area. Took forever where ever you went to get a drink or some service. I stood at a poolside bar for 10 minutes watching some guy load the cooler, when he finally asked if he could help me, he acted like I was bothering him so I said never mind and walked off. They do have lots of people working on the ships appearance. My friend got his shirt covered with a black spray from power washing the smoke stack while we were walking one morning. They fixed that the next day by changing the paint scheme on the side of the walking area from white to blue, the fumes made us sick so we decided to go to the hot tub area. The inside hot tub area is supposed to be adult only, no children as the sigh plainly says. Not the case the pool was filled with children. When it was mentioned to the pool butler he simply shrugged his shoulders and walked off. None of the refrigerators in our 4 staterooms were even cool, the water on the other had was so hot in our room you could barley take a shower even when turned all the ay down, our friends in the next room was just the opposite, they could get no hot water at all. The bright spot was the two acts on the boats, one a comedian and the other a magician, both were excellent and a highlight of the boat. The boats show team did a good job with their two shows. The bands on the other hand were terrible, couldn't sing nor could they dance, and a DJ playing disco music in the grand staircase area really was not a good pick for formal night? Again I think the good entertainment was in there paid lounges and restaurants. Overall we had a good time on the cruise, the ports were great, the shore excursions ok and getting off the ship was good. Casino was way over priced for me, a 10.00 minimum on blackjack and paying for your own drinks is way out of line. But as far as the price we paid for this cruise I wouldn't pick celebrity again.

The service was very nice... by obaranov

The service was very nice and there was always plenty of things to do on board of the ship. The room attendants were very courteous and remembered not only our names but the children names. The kids zone was very nice and my child enjoyed his time.

Wonderful Cruise by CAMhenley

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Constellation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My favorite port. Cozumel is proof that Mexico can do ‘island flavor’ with the best of the Caribbean. It may not be the biggest island in the sea, but Cozumel offers a huge variety of things to do, see, taste and explore. This island just happens to be perched atop a coral reef, which promises hours of snorkeling or scuba diving fun. Cruises to Cozumel dock at the island’s heart — just minutes from San Miguel’s seafront shops and the white sand beach at Chankanaab National Park.

This was my second cruise in 10 years and I'm very pleased with Celebrity Constellation. Overall the cruise was enjoyable but we got noisy people next door. The staff was amazingly nice and helpful during all the cruise :-) I just want to point out, the stop to Key West was way too short. 4 hours does not give enough time to visit the city.

Winter Getaway! by LisaG16

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Constellation / Destination: Mexico

We decided we needed a winter getaway, so we booked a 4 night, 5 day cruise on the Celebrity Constellation. This was our third cruise with Celebrity. We have also cruised with Royal Carribean, Disney, and Carnival. Celebrity is our favorite cruiseline bar none. The food is absolutely fantastic, the entertainment is great, the staff goes above and beyond to make sure your cruise experience is the best. Our first stop was Key West, and I wish we could have been there longer. It was a very short day. Cozumel was a full day and is a really nice place, clean safe with lots to do. This time we only went to the beach but last time we did a Dolphin excursion which was wonderful. Can't say enough good things about Celebrity.

We boarded about 11:30 am and it was a breeze. Of course the rooms weren't ready but the bars were open and the delicious buffet lunch was set up and ready. Our room was ready soon after we finished eating. Will comment more about specifics in those categories below.

Absolutely Fabulous by bill570

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Constellation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a great time on the Celebrity Constellation. I wanted a cruise that would not be full of kids and that is what we got. The crowd was a mix of Under 45's and Over 45's with both age groups fairly well represented. As my wife and I are 45 - it was just perfect. There were activities for younger people and older people. The dining was great and we enjoyed the oceanview cafe on the 10th floor for its stunning views. We spent a lot of time there eating and just watching the water go by. To be honest we loved the sea days more than the port days because it was far more relaxing.

Poor review system by carolefox

I'd love to review this cruise, but unfortuantely after I spent several minutes writing a thoughful and informative review, your system timed out and my review was lost. If there is a limited time permitted for typing the review, you should tell people up front so they don't waste their time!

Good.It was obviously an older ship and needed some updating (esp. in the cabins) but everything was clean and well-taken care of. Our steward, Peter, was available and got us anything we needed.

OK but not up to Celebrity standards by JohnU1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Constellation / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

The onboard entertainment was the best that we have experienced on any ship. However when we boarded the Constellation at about 1:30pm on the 1st day we were told that our cabin was not ready yet. That was OK with us as we were able to have lunch on board. When we arrived at our cabin at about 3pm even though we were told that our cabin was ready it was not. It was obvious that many of the surfaces had not been properly cleaned as the were dusty. The drawers were not only dusty but had hair in two of them. The toilet had not been properly cleaned and the shower had visible mildew. It was relatively quiet in our stateroom until the last night when someone started to move furniture at about 2:30am resulting in a loud scraping sound. As there were no staterooms on the deck above us this very loud could only have been generated by the crew. Speaking of crew, they were certainly a very friendly group who tried very hard to provide excellent service to the guests. Overall it was certainly not the best cruise we have taken on Celebrity but nevertheless acceptable.
