Review summary
We were biased by pre-cruise reviews to expect an "older" ship. While there are signs of aging, the cosmetics are not what makes for a great cruise experience. The Century is a great ship, she has a degree of class and elegance that is not that common among the newer, splashier ships that have entered service over the last 5 or 6 years. What impressed us most was the overall attitude towards guest service. Never forced or condescending - it is a genuine feeling of care that all of the staff demonstrate. The complimentary champagne upon boarding was a precursor of a refreshing attitude towards enjoyment without strings attached. We appreciated the fact that not every moment on board was seen as an opportunity to generate revenue for the cruise line. We found a great deal of value in the laid-back approach that is evident on the Celebrity Century. Don't get me wrong, we still left plenty of money with the ship when we disembarked, but we did so willingly and without any pressure from the service staff. We truly loved the food, both the variety and the quality, served in every venue. The choices in the Island Cafe are varied, but predictable from day to day. If you find something you really like, you know it will be back tomorrow. The same was true in the main dining room. The menu that is available with favorites everyday is a great idea. We went back and forth between favorite appetizers (best escargot at sea!) and entrees or desserts featured that day only. We were Select dining passengers and never had any problems with getting a cozy table for two. Mona was genuinely hospitable and accomodating. We had a different server every night and all were professional and gracious. Our room was small but very attractive and comfortable. Our room steward was an invisible agent providing service without being seen. We did not ask for any special treatments, but we had fresh water, fresh ice, and a clean and well-stocked room at all times. We would recommend the Celebrity line to anyone looking for a combination of service, comfort, and enjoyment.Ship experiences
