Celebrity Ascent Maiden Voyage was beyond our expectations. I've already booked another cruise for my family for Dec. 2024.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was fast and smooth. We left our baggage at the port to have it delivered to our room.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We booked the 4 free specialty restaurants: Cosmopolitan, Tuscan, Normandie & Cyprus. All restaurants had great ambiances and the food was excellent. The buffets were beyond our expectations. For breakfast, they offered fresh omelets made-to-order. Fresh fruit and beverage stations. Fresh breads and bagels were made daily and the atmosphere and ship staff were phenomenal.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We didn't participate in any onboard activities as we were on 100% relax mode.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We visited the theatre to see a comedy show that was very entertaining.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The layout was beautiful and elegant.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin size was great for 2. There was so much storage and we were able to fit our suit cases under the bed. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was much larger than expected.

Ship tip

Pay attention to the signs when you exit the elevators. They tell you which direction everything is and if you miss it, you'll be wondering around aimlessly.

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

3 out of 5
We did an island tour excursion on St. Maarten. It was very informative and the bus ride was okay. We stopped at an outdoor shopping district for 40min and 5-10min everywhere else. We should have been able to stop at scenic places for more than 5-10min.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We went on a cable car ride and to the top where there were supposed to be shops and food. Several of the shops were closed. They were also very expensive and overpriced. The shop workers were unenthusiastic and didn't pay attention when asked questions about their wares. We were told to ride back down the ride and meet the driver, Boone. Several passengers were confused of the exact meeting point as there were 2 different levels for parking and as a result, making the ride back to the ship 20min later than planned. The driver sped back to the ship, didn't speak to us at all and dropped us off. The ride was rougher on the way back as it seemed like he had another appointment and barely slowed down for traffic lights. Will not book again if ever returning.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
We booked the cable car & tour excursion. This lasted 4 1/2 hours as planned and although the view was obscured by clouds, it was beautiful experience. After the 10min ride up the mountain, we were told of the history of Dominican side of the island and almost was able to view Puerto Rico. We rode down the mountain and were told rich history of the culture and land. Once in the capital, we toured the city center by foot. It was a beautiful experience that I would do again when I visit.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We were asked to vacate the rooms by 7:30am and wait in a special location for debarkation. We were called by specific number group and exited the ship. Our baggage was waiting for us and after a 3 second stop for facial recognition, we exited the terminal - about 45 min before the scheduled time!
