Review summary

Trans-Atlantic crossings are a very good way to enjoy a 2 week vacation with everything included and a phenomenal value.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Despite specific terminal arrival times, by 11:30 a large number of guests had cued with out check-in starting. Check in didn't start until noon and by that time the line to enter the terminal was long. was long. Pre-boarding COVID testing has complicated things but ship's staff and Eurofins (the testing agent) carried this off pretty well. The Eurofins testing phone app is cumbersome, requires an internet connection and has technical issues.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
You won't find higher quality food and dining options on competing lines. Celebrity Edge Class ships are industry leaders in RCG's target market for these ships.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
More activities of all types than one can account for.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Again, tops on the high seas. Vegas/Broadway quality production shows with talented dancers and vocalists. Edge Class ships have unique performance venues beyond the main theater.

Children's Programs

No kids.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Celebrity's corporate goal is excellence and since their origin under the Chardris Group in the 80s, now Royal Caribbean Group, they've delivered that. Across the brand you'll be excellently served and warmly welcomes. It's what Celebrity does better than most.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Apex is the second of the Edge Class ships. They are different and if that's what you enjoy, sailing on one of these class ships is right for you.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
If you don't mind not having a view or your budget demands it, the Delux Inside Cabins on Apex are more spacious than on other ships we've sailed aboard (>50). Very well laid out and nicely appointed. Lighting technology is pretty cool too.

Ship tip

If you like production shows, go early to get the seat you want. This is especially true for shows done in "The Club" and "Eden." These two venues feature performances where you are essentially seated on or just off the stage.

Ports of call

Alicante, Spain

All time favorite. Nice market just steps from the ship and further inland all kids of shops and eateries.

Cartagena, Spain

Get a private guide from Tours by Locals. The pre-Roman Empire, ancient history here in this city is worth learning about it in a small group from a guide qualified to teach it.

Cadiz (Seville), Spain

Do you like Flamenco? There's a ship's tour that offers a small venue performance of this. Fun. This port you had to do a ship's tour. Can't do it on your own. That will change.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

5 out of 5
A popular European vacation spot. Limited to a ship's tour where you have to stay with the group (no independent shopping or dining) that did just about as good of a job as possible Still good sightseeing.

Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Canary Islands

5 out of 5
Beautiful island much bigger and mountainous than I expected. Limited to a ship's tour where you have to stay with the group (no independent shopping or dining) that did just about as good of a job as possible. Nice vistas for photography.

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida Did not visit port

We live here.

Disembarkation

Port Everglades has got this down. Customs and Immigration is handled through one line and with facial recognition technology being used, you walk off the ship at your designated time, pick-up your luggage, pass through C&I and your curb side in about 20 minutes. No more hour long debarkation lines.
