Review summary

I was super excited about going on a new Carnival ship, the ratings and reviews were great I was so incredibly disappointed by the mediocrity of it all - I will NOT be trying Carnival Horizon The only saving grace were most of the Carnival personnel, friendly and professional, I'm so grateful

Embarkation

3 out of 5
We had to push our luggage in even though we arrived by 2 pm other than that it went okay - the gangway was super long!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was generally good but inconsistent, that is Carnival's downfall the service for dinner was excellent, the service for sea day brunch was the worst ever We had an amazing dinner at the Asian restaurant, well worth the $15 cover charge! The lines at the Lido were long, never had all stations open if you wanted a bite after a show you had to hang around until 1130 pm room service was great

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
I went to two pamper parties, watched the hairy chest competition, saw both comedians and tried to gamble in the casino (should be called the local ashtray) we went to the IMAX theater twice, that was cool we also went to movie night on the Lido deck, great idea for families

Entertainment

3 out of 5
the shows were good but not spectacular, I wish they would have a variety show in the mix the seating in the Liquid lounge is just confusing not well suited for the venue

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
we saw our cabin steward twice the whole cruise - no turn down service ever the my time dining dining room waiting staff was amazing - Luth is awesome! The ladies at the spa are very professional and friendly

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
The ship reminds me of the Carnival Breeze which is the worst cruise I've ever been on the layout is like a maze so confusing :( the split plan does not work at all you end up going around in circles to find the other side! The many uneven surfaces caused me to trip and fall down hurting myself the dΓ©cor is plain and uninspired I didn't find the ship to be dirty but it seemed very worn for being such a new ship

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
one of the smallest cabins I've ever had the bed was literally a cot the walls are paper thin we kept hearing the neighbor's music all night there is no chair only a low stool to sit on there's only a few drawers and the closet is very small as well I guess that's what you get for not shelling out big bucks for a suite

Ship tip

skip it

Ports of call

Ocho Rios, Jamaica Did not visit port

unable to go because I got hurt from my fall

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
7-mile beach is a must see

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
The friendliest people ever, and the beaches are awesome

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
it was a disaster, no redeeming qualities at all Carnival clearly cannot handle the amount of people this ship carries

dculpepper1, I think so. I loved the Breeze, but I can understand that for some it could be, especially with the larger ones. I am just happy to go on a cruise!! πŸ˜€

I loved the Vista. wondering if it was too big for you. I noticed that the people who don't like it feel that it's overwhelmingly. I actually am booked on the Horizon July 18.

I sailed on the Elation years ago and really had no expectation other than to have fun... and that's exactly what we did. I think people go into these thing with incredibly high expectations. If they are wanting luxury, go with Crystal Cruise lines... probably going to pay and arm and a leg for it!

After reading so many reviews like this one, I wasn't planning to spend our money on Vista, but friends booked and wanted us to go along. I found it to be a little more than the Dream class ships, cost wise. I scored us a 4j (obstructed ocean view) and port hole for the girls. We shall see. I will go with low expectations, and make the best of it. How can we not love the staff and crew? They are awesome! πŸ˜€
