Review summary

I am a first time cruiser, 31 years old, traveled with 3 friends. We had bad weather throughout the trip, causing a missed first port, last minute cancellations at second port for excursions, and not a lot of comfortable weather for spending time on deck. This will create bias in my review, I cannot help that, but I am trying to be fair.

Ship

The draw for me for choosing this ship was all the outdoor activities. Bad weather kept the ropes course and bike closed a lot. When they were open, the lines were long. I got to do the ropes, it was harder than expected but I loved it. Never did the bike because I didn't want to stand in line for over an hour. I would assume the lines wouldn't have been as bad if we had been able to have it open more. The weather kept most of us off the decks as well, causing crowding within the ship. It made it hard to be comfortable in bars, at events, etc. So to me the ship doesn't handle bad weather well. The rumors of the elevators are true, they do tend to take a long time. Plan at least an extra 15 min to get anywhere if you want to ride them. The layout of the ship was confusing, kept getting cut off on the decks we wanted to walk through. That is probably my inexperience, but more signs would be nice to stop me from walking half a deck before I realized I couldn't get where I wanted. I thought the set up for the night club was cool. The piano bar was nice. Red frog pub needs to be bigger to handle the people, but nice. Also, the Havana Bar was cool, but too small as well. My favorite spot was deck 11 on the railing areas with the view of lido. The ship was clean did not look run down at all.

Room 1302, deck 1

Very cool room. We had 2 bathrooms, on with a tub/shower and sink and the other with toilet, shower and vanity/sink. Made getting ready much quicker. Comfy beds and easy to use thermostat. We had a window, and being that close to the water is great. I think it may have been louder hearing the waves hit the boat, but ear plugs took care of that.

Food (any time)

Dinner food was always good. Service was slow unless you made it to earlier times (5:30). My favorites were the mushroom soup, fillet mignon, and stuffed mushrooms. There were a lot of options. Breakfast in the dining room was always prompt and good. Lido wasn't usually very special, but food was decent. I did love the corn fritters. Sweet spot ice cream was good, soft serve was not very good. The other desserts were better than most buffets I have been to. Great salad bar too. Breakfast was better than lunch and dinner for flavor. Guys was awesome. Very good burger. Pizza was better than I expected. I got gluten free and usually gluten free isn't real great, but it was good.

Bars

All drinks I tried were good. Favorite was the Hurricane Wave. The alchemy bar maritinis were amazing, but spendy. The bars were almost always crowded, especially Red frog Pub, making it hard to get drinks.

Spa

Too spendy, people I spoke to trying to ask about deals were confusing and pushy. If you want something, book it ahead online for better prices.

IMAX
3D and amazing, I don't have access to IMAX locally. Very cool

Excursions

DO NOT do tiki beach with chair and 1 drink in Grand Caymen through carnival. We originally booked something else, it got cancelled as we were at the port waiting for it to start (weather). We had no warning and had never been there before so we ended up signing up for the Tiki beach out of confusion and time constraint. It was a ride to the beach, a chair to lay on, and a very watered down tiny drink. You can do this for about 20 bucks if not through carnival, and we paid 52$. The beach was fine, just didn't need to pay 52$ to get there. DO the Cozumel private VIP catamaran all inclusive. Only about 20 people if that. Great crew, very friendly. The drinks were strong and you never felt like you couldn't have one due to lines or the crew not serving you. The snorkel wasn't great, very pressured to stay too close, but they were trying to keep us safe (weather, high traffic area). The rest of the ride was well worth it. Seriously great, even though I dropped my phone into the ocean and said bye bye forever.  We also did Miami everglades air boat, very good, lots of alligators. The food in the restaurant is better than it seems it would be based on the looks of the building.

Staff

Cruise directors are awesome, and rest of staff is friendly and hard working

Sorry about you losing your phone mate! I went to Bed Bath & Beyond where I found a cool clear plastic waterproof pouch with a grommet for a lanyard. You can even take pictures thru the plastic!
