Overall, for the first time being on a cruise, I am not sure I would do it again with Carnival due the experience we had.
Embarkation

This was not the greatest, we read about the guidelines and they said we could bring a fan on board with us, then upon arrival thru check in we were not able to have it so we had to wait to take in back to our car...horrible !

This was a horrible experience, we were right above a live band and at night we couldn't even enjoy a nice relaxing night in our room due to the excessive noise, we complained many times but they did not do anything about it, they said they could relocate us to the bottom of the boat and that was even a worse location...
Ship tip
This is an older boat, beware was more of a party setting and very loud in the rooms
Let me add, that if you chose a short cruise (5 days or less) those are well known as “booze cruises”, with a total party atmosphere. You need to book a longer cruise for a more relaxing, less rowdy drunks, cruise. The exception to that may be in New England Fall cruises from NYC to Nova Scotia, where it’s too cool and windy to hang by a pool. I did a 5 day on one of those, and it was so cold out on deck, you could only have a hot cup of coffee for Sail Away from ports, not an icy cocktail for sure! Lol!
First of all, it IS an old ship that you chose for your first cruise. It’s ready to go in for an extended dry dock to be remade and renamed. If you wanted something newer, you should have done your research on your ship, and chose wisely. The same goes for choosing your cabin. Before actually booking, check out deck plans, and choose your cabin for best location. I always choose a cabin on a deck that is “sandwiched” between two cabin-only decks. Oh, and BTW—-it is called a ship, not a boat. A boat is something you might go fishing in. A ship is a a huge sea worthy vessel, whether passenger cruise, cargo, or naval. Not a boat.
Victory is definitely a party boat, we took it for my sister 60th Birthday at beginning of Feb. If you take a 5 days or more cruise it's more relaxing and not fast pace.
We were just on the victory in January, had cabin 1004 absolutely loved it! In the front of the ship, considered an interior room but had a window ( obstructed View) with your own semi private deck outside. Largest cabin we ever had due to the semi octagon shape.
Yes you always need to research your cabin location. It's best to be on a deck with cabins above and below you, no noise from casino, theater, kitchen Etc.
Don't give up. Maybe another cruise line. I am loyal to Royal (Caribbean) and Carnival caters to a younger crowd. We went last week and although the kids were all well behave, it is spring break time.
