Review summary

Four day cruise on the Carnival Valor out of Galveston, TX. Only one port of call; Cozumel, Mexico. I've never used another cruise line so I may be a bit biased, but Carnival is very accommodating to all ages of guests. I've taken children from seven months old up to adult age and it's always an experience of a lifetime. If you haven't been on a cruise before, do it as soon as you can. You won't be disappointed and you'll be hooked from day 1.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Carnival has improved the embarkation process over the past several years. It is definitely quicker and less painless than it use to be.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The staff in the fine dining rooms are the best. Our main waiter was Cocoa (full name Kaloyan). He was great with the kids, super friendly and service was excellent. The food was consistent with the previous Carnival cruises I've been on. If you leave hungry or dissapointed, it's your own fault.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I did not use the pools or hot tubs, but the kids did and loved it. They were clean and well maintained.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows in the Ivanhoe Theater were top notch as well as the comedians in the Punchliner Comedy Club.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Kids loved them all. We had kids from ages 2 to 17 and they all had a great time in the kids' clubs. The staff was very accommodating and understanding.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All wait staff and room stewards were excellent.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Standard Carnival setup. Very clean and user friendly.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Interior cabins are fairly small, but had all the amenities we expected. We had four cabins and all were the same.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
Galveston isn't the most modern place, but it's neat to see the history in the buildings.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
I've been to Cozumel six times. It is always a great port to visit. We went to Mr. Sanchos and really enjoyed it. Make sure you try the coconut shrimp. I'm sure I ate my weight in it.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We were a bit late getting into port so disembarkation was a little behind, but it wasn't terribly bad. They have definitely improved the process over the past several years and it is pretty painless.
