Review summary

I don't understand why you cannot use your drink package on the first day of sailing.  Every other cruise line I have sailed on the package is available on the first day.  This is not acceptable to me.  Seems like a way for carnival to make more revenue.  Please explain.

yes you can use bottomless bubbles on day one.

boykinep    7 years ago

can you use the bubbles (soda package) on day one?

NKNT    7 years ago

what about the soda package?

jbbinder    7 years ago

It's due to Texas alcohol laws. You can still get any drink you want on day 1, but you can't use the Cheers package (and you're not charged for that day either.)

Royal Caribbean lets you use your package the first day in Galveston but the drink menu is limited

When leavening out of Texas, Carnival has to follow Texas laws. They pull out bottles of liquor purchased from Texas until they are out of the Texas jurisdiction. They have to be purchased from Texas bc of the taxes that Texas charges. After the ship is in international waters they switch back to the liquor that was not purchased in Texas. Carnival doesn't charge for the first day anyway when leaving out of Texas. So drink your bottle of wine that you are allowed to bring. And enjoy your cruise! You are on vacation!!!!!

It's not Carnival, it's Texas law. You can still buy drinks at the bar on night one.

Ships are subject to the laws of the port they are docked at. Not the cruise line's doing, they must abide by local law.

PepeStrange    7 years ago

Law or not, just go to the bar and order a drink. Your on a cruise, and probably going to blow a lot of coin anyway. With the drink package just make up for it the next couple of days. Once you leave port and you are out of territorial waters the package will be good to go !!!!

Darylmiles Yes I can in Colorado just saying ... alcohol 7 days a week Sunday thru Sunday ....😎

pappasmurf22    7 years ago

You can't use that first day out of Texas and a couple other ports but they also don't charge you for that day either.

jasondennis    7 years ago

TABC will not allow it in Texas. Also Alabama and New York.

darylmiles    7 years ago

Can't you get beer after noon on Sundays?

Lots of reviewers cut Carnival a lot of slack because they're so cheap (inexpensive) - and respond to critiques with "you get what you pay for."  Not me. If it's a bad experience - don't go back.

bivensbeth    7 years ago

it's Texas laws

so sneak on a plastic Flask for the 1st day if you feel tht strongly about giving them 1 days worth of extra money

jodi74    7 years ago

I never heard of that, we always can use our package on the first day! I know in the past we had to pay taxes on our drinks but that never was alot!
