In the wake of Matthew

Sail Date: September 30, 2016

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

Our cruise took us from Port Canaveral to St Maarten, where we jumped in right behind Hurricane Matthew. Then on to St Kitts and San Juan. Our visit to Grand Turk was cancelled due to the damage there from Matthew, so we had a additional 'fun day at sea' aboard Carnival VALOR. The at sea time and activities are mostly why I cruise in the first place, so this was no disappointment. Due to Matthew two days prior to our return, the US Coast Guard closed Port Canaveral (as with all other East Coast cruise ports) and was then re-opened early afternoon the day or our scheduled return and we arrived only about 7 hours later than originally scheduled. Everything during this cruise was fantastic; The crew, the food, the entertainment, and of course, just being aboard the beautiful Carnival VALOR. Can't wait 'till the next one!

Cabin / Stateroom
Clean, roomy and comfortable. Could use a additional electrical outlet.
Embarkation and Disembarkation
Embarcation was amazing. We went from the parking garage to the ship in just about twenty minutes...Outstanding!!! Disembarkation was a little stressful due to our late arrival and three ships returning to Port Canaveral at the same time with port suport staff just arriving. With our portered on/off ship luggage transport method, and the sequence of our disembarcation it took about two hours from start time. However, due to other extenuating circumstances I refuse to take points away for this minor inconvenience.
Ship Quality
The VALOR is a beautiful ship. Devoid of even minor flaws. The effort to both maintenance and cleanliness is apparent everywhere.
Destinations and Excursions
Destinations in the Carribbean are always pleasant and safe. We freelanced without formal excursions this time.
Onboard Activities
Always something to do, from trivia, to theatre shows, to the music. Oh yeah, can't forget the casino! The option of just about any type bar you could want and night clubs for all ages are a plus also.
Children's Programs
Seventh cruise, first without the young ones! Past experience has proven Camp Carnival is fantastic for young children to mid teens. The staff are entertainers and child care professionals, not baby sitters!!
Entertainment
Fantastic. Glad to see the return of the crew staff shows. Please upgrade Karoke programming and songbooks to give country music a little more respect!
Service and Staff
Outstanding service . Cheerful and 'ready to serve' crew.
Food and Dining
Way too many options to not find something to like!!
Port Canaveral, Florida
Fastest embarcation port of the four I've used in Florida. These folks really have their act together!
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
Basseterre, St. Kitts
San Juan, Puerto Rico

Tip

I think I pretty much covered this already above.
