This was our 16th Carnival cruise and we've always been loyal to them. With recent changes, additional costs and rise in pricing of a cruise we are wondering if we can do better with another line. Also very disappointed with our Carnival rep so we may start using a travel agency.
Embarkation

As cold as it was we had to stand outside as doors didn't get unlocked until noon. I can understand not processing but they should have a place INSIDE that you can wait, use the restrooms etc.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Buffets seemed to be limited in selection. Have only been on 1 ship that they knew how to make a good pizza. Dining room food and other areas with food were good.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Was cold and raining during a lot of the trip so did not go outside that much. The dive in movie was good.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Went to one show which was welcome aboard and it was okay. The woman singing hit some real sour notes singing, the man singing and dancers were good. Carnival's shows aren't as good as they use to be. We didn't attend any other shows. The band in the casino was great and there was a man that sang in the atrium every night that was great which is the only reason my rating is good instead of just okay.
Children's Programs

Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Our room stewards were great. Our waiter said a dish I asked for (not on menu that night) was not available without checking. I was able to get this dish on 2 other cruises. AS a Platinum and VIPF member I was disappointed in the casino service. I don't drink more than 1 or 2 but was only asked twice during the 5 days if I wanted a drink. The one time I ordered one they brought a bill with it.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
It was clean for the age of the ship. I am aware it is being refurbed and renamed the Sunrise soon.
Cabin / Stateroom

Our room was very clean and our room steward kept it that way. I requested an egg crate be put on the bed and he did that before bed time the first night. Balcony showing signs of rust and windows would not clean good.
No excursion and won't cruise out of this port again. What made it worse is the President flew in that same morning and was close to the Carnival port and there were protestors everywhere. Wasn't pleasant as doors were not opened til noon, it was cold and no where to even sit down.
They are in process of building this area up for tourists. Unless you take a bus and go to town there isn't much to do at the dock area. The area was clean but store employees standing outside their stores begging you to come in and look.
