Review summary

The Hub App was great and overall it was fun, just on an old ship. The ports are safe for all and great places for new cruisers to start. The staff can be great or terrible depending.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Erato street terminal was a surprisingly easy process. Plenty of parking, and easy to get into the terminal. Once in faster to the fun made it super quick to check in and get on board. We arrived at 10:30 am and we were onboard eating lunch at 11:30.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food is still good, but not as good as it was just a few years ago. The American table is just a notch down from what you used to get. Overall I'd place it at a good high end chain restaurant, but not a high end specialty restaurant.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Pools were fine and the dive in movies ar always fun. Space is a premium on the triumph size ship so everything was always busy.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The music, comedy, and other entertainment was all top notch. Maybe we were lucky that week but I had no complaints in this area.

Children's Programs

2 out of 5
My kids complained about one of the staff being mean and they said they played the quiet game a lot. Sometimes they had fun but they didn't ever ask to go and spend time.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
This one is tough. Our head waitress at dinner was phenomenal and we would give her five stars. However we saw our room steward all of twice. Once on the morning of the second day and the second time a couple days later he burst into our room and saw us changing cloths. Other than that he never made sure we had what we needed or asked about when to service our room. We never even saw them in the hall.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Lots of rust. Deck planks were cracked throughout the ship. Layout is showing its age. Being built in 1999, carnival has learned a lot since then and the dream and vista class ships are miles above in terms of flow.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Our bathroom door would not close as the frame had rivots popping out. The balcony door would not latch as it was misaligned. The lights were broken and exposed wires above our heads as we slept. The only good thing was its location, which was easy to get to anywhere.

Ship tip

Expect its age and you'll be fine.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

3 out of 5
French market is fun if you've never been. The whole city smells bad though, and I've been to lots of city's.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Its touristy. But that also makes it safe. Isla passion was okay but did not deliver what it advertised.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

3 out of 5
Everything is by bus. Which is ok, but you should know that. Mayan ruins are the order of the day here, skip Merida city.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Again the fun pays off here. We were zone 2 and off by 8:45. Actually ahead of some self debarking. That did not seem to be flowing well.
