Review summary

It was very enjoyable. We had some disappointments but we had a really good time. The crew are fantastic. And it's a great value for our money. Love cruising with Carnival.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was great. We got to the port at our scheduled time and we were on the ship with very little waiting. We had read on the website that our suite would be ready as soon as we boarded but it was not; it was ready by 1:00, 1:30 which was the time indicated by the signage on the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room was nice; to me it didn't seem dated or beat up. We ate dinner there 4/5 evenings. Servers were great although the first night the wait staff seemed overwhelmed. Food was good but portions were not enormous, though only once did I leave dinner feeling unsatisfied (which left room for ice cream and cookies from room service. Guy's Burgers good, main buffet was good for breakfast and a dinner. I was a little disappointed with the burrito place but maybe that was a result of my ingredient choices. And Pizza Pirate was awesome. Having been spoiled by Chicago pizza i had very low expectations for pizza at sea; but it was great. Good thin crust, great cheese. Never ate at the main dining room for breakfast, but did "sea-day brunch" twice, food was good but portions were very small and it was more time consuming than it was worth. Grilled cheese from room service actually seemed to be "grilled" rather than toasted. Overall we loved the food.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Onboard activities were ok. We watched a dive in movie, played mini golf, swam in the pool, played a game of movie trivia, saw one comedy show and one stage show. We played bingo (fun but a bit costly). It was all fun.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Comedian was funny. Stage show was ok. Cruise director was great; Love and Marriage show is hilarious.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Wait staff and room steward were fantastic, a pleasure to interact with. Everyone else was super friendly as well.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It was nice, definitely had a few cosmetic issues but it was nice for being an older ship. It definitely shows some wear in places. Elevators were seriously aggravating at times, often several different elevators would go past the floor we were on, we took the stairs a lot.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
It was generally nice. Spacious. Comfortable. But it did not have the same layout as Carnival's website showed. And it did have some real wear and tear: crack in the sink, clothes line in the shower wouldn't retract, annoying lights by the headboard that got in the way of sitting up in bed. Lots of permanent marks on the glass of the windows, door, and balcony. But we had 4 outlets, and the refrigerator was good and cold. And we had a great cabin steward.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

Home port, stayed the night prior, didn't care for it, not my scene.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
Went to Isla Pasion and it was great, really good people working there, fantastically thoughtful. And nice to talk to as well.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

3 out of 5
We just walked around and checked out the city. Not real touristy which is fine, but not real exciting.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Disembarkation was slow but smooth.

You, and many others. Nice you look at the big picture for overall good vs focusing on the small negatives.
