Review summary
It had been about 15 years since I last cruised, and I am happy to see that it was as fun as I ever had. It looked like the issues that I did have from back then had been addressed well: The food was unquestionably better and consistently good. The ship staff was excellent, friendly and outgoing with literally no exceptions. The bands entertaining on the promenade deck were simply outstanding! Leaving from New Orleans for 4 nights, we found that the cruisers were largely from Louisiana and the surrounding area. Not that it was a problem but its always nice meeting people from all over on a cruise. The issues we had were really minor but at least worth mentioning: The wifi was poor - considering you pay for it, we never had a consistent, reliable or fast connection. With so many wonderful things for free, when you do charge for something, and it isn't cheap, it should work reliably. The other thing is a small thing but, while we absolutely loved the cruise director Jess, we felt like the on deck fun could have been more varied. There was the obligatory hairy chest contest and ice carving but most of the rest of the entertainment on deck consisted of line dances. No doubt they were fun and I think people who love that sort of thing were having a blast, but I think some more creativity would benefit in having a bigger variety of fun things happening on the sun decks. All in all, we REALLY had a great time. One last thing, if you can, get the balcony room - it really enhanced the value of our trip
