Review summary

The food choices were really diverse and fun, and the crew/staff were helpful and so attentive. Nice amenities, we had a lovely balcony room, however, even with non smoking rules, our neighbors would smoke on their balcony, and we'd have to go inside and close the door. I wish a steward had noticed the smell of smoke and done something to stop that. It kind of spoiled our enjoyment of ocean air morning and night. And, my husband bought me an e-gift card in advance, which I was not able to use, because trying to cage an appointment time, the card was lost in the system, and though I was promised for two weeks in advance of sailing that it would be re-issued, (I called at least 6 times about this!) it was not re-issued. So...go cruise with Carnival, but don't buy an e-gift card, because those customer service people who handle gift cards can't fix problems, and will tell you what they think you want to hear to make you go away. We loved the cruise...but will never buy a gift through the online system again.

lovely accommodations, clean, and a wonderful attentive steward.

Ship tip

Have some things you need with you when you board, since your bags may not get to your room for a while. We booked shore excursions online in advance, and were glad we did, but learned we could have done in on board, and there are long lines for guest services the first day.

Take cash along for whatever tour or activitiy, because the guides expect to be tipped, and we had not thought of that.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

We loved the Mayan ruins and our tour guide Riena. Do take cash to tip the guide and driver, since that is not included in the price.

there's no way I would pay for a balcony to not be able to use it. either I would have told them about it or I would have complained to our steward

I've purchased lots of $ in gift cards and never had this issue. Changing appointments should not play a part in your gift card. It should have been automatically applied to your sail & sign account. I'd call the credit card company and dispute the charge. If you have your receipt with purchase info etc any customer service rep should be able too trace and apply your transaction or at least put you in touch with a party who can. As for the smoking issue, you needed to report it. Your room steward has so many rooms to address that smoking is low on their priorities. He/she probably never noticed. Fire safety issues are everyone's concerns on a ship at sea. The rules are in place for safety reasons and in this case you're not considered a tattle tale for turning in your smoking neighbor. Yes, I'm a non smoker but my husband does smoke.
