Review summary

This was my first cruise ever. I'm glad that I had the "sailing" experience but I will not do it again with Carnival. The ship (Triumph) is old and not very nice. The ship seemed overcrowed. Kids running the halls throughout the night. The food was ok but not great. Carnival is not a luxury cruise line from what I gather. We will try a different cruise line if we go again. I prefer going to a resort and being at the destination for a few days; rather than be at sea 75% of the time and hope it doesn't rain the one day your at port. I hope this helps you decide.

Ship tip

The Paris dinning room is excellent. Joseph and his staff are professionals. The food was what I expected, great! This standard should be held around the entire ship.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

I work on Galveston Island as there is a ton of great place to eat.

Cozumel, Mexico

Was not impressed overall. The Mayan ruins are interesting.

I would never cruise in the summer for that exact reason! Always cruise during off peak months. Not only is it cheaper but definitely less crowded and hardly any kids. 😂

If kids running up and down the halls knocking on doors, and being up all hour of the day an night, an being a pain don't cruise in the summer when school is out. In the months school is in session there are less children on board

Agree with jdowen, any vacation is what you make of it. I've heard/read good and bad about all of Carnival's ships, and RCCL, NCL and so on. My family is looking forward to sailing on the Triumph this October - especially since my BFF's family is going too!

A cruise is really what you make out of it. Carnival is more about having fun so if your wanting a more luxurious time they are probably not the right fit. Now for the Triumph, we absolutely love this ship. She does not have some of the bells and whistles of the newer ships but does have a lot to offer. We have been on her twice, once in 2011 and once after the so called "poop incident" Love the ship! So much so we have a 3rd planned in Jan 2016. Love carnival and the Triumph.

Thank you for posting your review.  It is unfortunate that you did not realize that every cruise line includes a "ships facts" page which describes each of their vessels. Some lines are more straightforward than others. Unfortunately, Carnival's site is a PITA to navigate with all their fancy windows, etc.  Their ships page is located at http://www.carnival.com/cruise-ships.aspx.  Whenever a cruise line's page is that difficult to navigate (npi), I check out Wikipedia for the basics. See page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnival_Triumph.  If you had, perhaps you might have had second thoughts about getting on this particular ship, especially after the "poop cruise" disaster in 2013.

Best wishes for a better cruise next time.

Triumph is a 16 year old ship. Maybe you should have chose one of their newer ships like the Magic. People are so quick to blame Carnival. If you wanted to cruise on a bigger and newer ship, why wouldn't you choose a bigger and newer ship?
