Review summary

Overall, this cruise was exacty what it was promoted to be!  There is a reason why Carnival is promoted as The Fun Ship!  If  you are an adult looking for lots of dress-up, peace-n-quiet, and elegance, look elsewhere!  However, if you are looking for some rest, some relaxation, and plenty of recreation, the Triumph is your ship!

Enjoy music, pools, waterslides, sunning, and people on the Lido deck, or slip off to the library, the coffee bar, the aft deck, or the balcony in your spacious (for a cruise ship) stateroom.  Either way, there is something for every age on board.

For a ship with 3,000+ on-board, the food is above average.  Whether it be in the buffet line with a wide variety of options, to the Chopstick (Chinese food), to the pizza/salad bar, or the WILDLY popular Guy's burgers, there is absoluteoy NO shortage of food.  The scheduled dinner times, if you choose to enjoy them, are filled with a good selection of entrees, complimented by a fairly healthy menu of sides.  Appetizers are nice, with the always popular shrimp cocktail availabe at each sitting.  Following your meal, enjoy your choice of dessert with a nice cup of coffee, cappacino, or brandy!  And, of course, ice cream or frozen yogurt at any time, 24/7!

As far as ports, Progresso is a failry eventless port.  It is, however, a very authentic Mexican location.  I am sure that, as more cruises stop there, it will develop.  Cozumel, however, is one of the best ports in the Carribean!  Plenty to do, as far as excursions, and the shopping is extremely accessible and clean.  HIGHLY recommend a water-sport excursion with Sand Dollar Sports ... THE best water sport company in the Carribean.  Snorkeling, Snuba, and/or Scuba is some of the best in the world!

We found the staff, the entertainment team, and the cabin stewards to be extremely friendly and efficient.  Jen, the cruise director was second-to-NONE!  On-board shows were very professional and highly entertaining.  Those who criticize the ship's entertainment as "cheesy" are nothing but haughty, wealthy wanna-be's!  If they were as "elite" as they try to sound, they would be on a ship other than Carnival!  For what they charge for theri cruises, Carnival offers an excellent variety of enjoyable entertainment.

And finally, baording and de-boarding the ship is a quick and painless as any we have ever experienced!  Recommendation ... arrive early on boarding day!  Be among the first to board.  Be ready to walk the gangway as soon as the gates open.  If you wait until the crowd arrives, you will experience lines.  On de-boarding morning, get up around 7:30, take a nice shower, head up to the Lido deck, enjoy a nice breakfast/brunch, and enjoy the morning.  If you don't get in a hurry, the debarkation process is very simple.

We are frequent travelers ... cruises, as well as destinations.  We have cruised several times.  Carnival is an enjoyable of an experience as we have ever had.  For the money, one of the best vacations money can buy!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Not 5-star dining, biut that is not waht you should expect from a cruise ship that services 3,000+ people all day long! Guy's Burgers was AWESOME ... all day long! Great addition, Carnival!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Plenty to choose from, yet little-or-no pressure to do anything that you do not want to do.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great variety, always on-time, and quality performers. Sets for evening shows, along with the live show band were outstanding!

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Though we did not travel with our children/grandchildren, we did note that the children on-board seeme dto ALWAYS be having fun. LOTS to do for the children ... all-day long!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Kind, friendly, efficient, and professional ... at least those that served US!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Triumph was recently remodled. We found it to be VERY clean, well-kept, and well-staffed. All amenities were in operation at all times. We left with absolutely NO complaints!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Not bad, but a bit too far towards the back of the ship. Will make sure that we are on Level 7 or higher on future cruises, more towards the front of the ship.

Ship tip

Pay the price for a balcony, forward to mid-ship. Level 7 and above, if you can afford it! If you are looking for peace-n-quiet in the evenings, DO NOT allow them to place you towards the back of the ship! That is where all of the night-life takes place ... til after 2:00 AM!

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

3 out of 5
Our port-of-call. Being from Texas, we have been to Galveston many times. Probably exciting for those who have never been there, but a bit common for us.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

3 out of 5
Still developing as an excursion port. Not really much to do. All-inclusive beach is about they best they have to offer. Shopping is fairly weak. Maybe a great place to simply stay on the ship and relax, while most go in! Makes for a quiet ship, some good sun and soak, and GUY'S BURGERS!

Cozumel, Mexico

Water Sports with Sand Dollar Sports ... nuf said!
