Review summary
We (two girlfriends and I) did the five nights tour from Galveston to Progreso and Cozumel in February 2014. It was a great trip. This is our second trip with Carnival; we went last January on the four night to Cozumel. This year, we had cabin # 7424 , an aft facing balcony cabin. It was a very nice room with plenty of room for the two twin beds and a rollaway bed for the third occupant. The balcony is very spacious - three chairs, a small table and a lounge chair all fit. My only complaint was that we kept finding lit cigarette butts on our balcony. I guess a lot of smokers get the balcony cabins so they can smoke on them, and just aren't careful about disposing of them properly. Maybe the cruise line should address this issue. Also, the occupants of the cabins on either side of us would shout and/or have loud conversations with each other across our balcony. Other than these inconsiderate guests, our cabin was very quiet. We were able to sleep at night and even nap during the day, if we wanted to. We could hear the toilet in the room next to is flushing, but other than that, very quiet.
The food isn't bad, but it isn't great, either. But there sure is a lot of it! Guy's Burgers was quite good. And the lobster in the main dining room was delicious. Wish they served that every night. One thing that Carnival just isn't good at is desserts. The chocolate melting cake is absolutely fantastic, while every other dessert I've tried, in the Paris dining room and at the buffet, is awful. They're not sweet, they're not decadent, they're just not good.
Two of us went to the gym a couple times and used the treadmills. Carnival advertises the gym as having floor to ceiling windows overlooking the ocean - it's right at the very front of the boat. True, there is a wall of windows, but the treadmills have tv screens attached which completely, totally block every inch of the view. Oh well, guess we will just jog on the outside jogging track instead.
Service was great, in both the cabin and dining areas. No complaints.
Progreso isn't much to see. Cozumel is crowded - there were six cruise ships docked when we were there. But the weather was gorgeous, the beach was beautiful and there are lots of excursion packages available. We didn't do an excursion this time, but last year we did the Dolphin Experience. That was amazing!

Ship tip
Get an aft facing balcony! They're the best! And pay for Faster to the Fun. Totally worth it!
