Review summary

Overall, the ship was nice but not "deluxe" or anything.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We loved our server in the dining room. Lines were too long at the buffets, so we tended to have most of our meals in the dining room. One big problem - lack of late-night food options. Pretty much it was pizza only. One night there was a buffet (starting at around 11:30) and we really enjoyed that, but otherwise there were no "snacking" options.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows in the Rome Lounge were very good. The band was great. It was nice having a 9-piece show band play. Good sound, excellent musicians.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Our son was looking forward to Circle C this year, but didn't much like the activities. Part of the problem was just the mix of kids on this cruise, most of whom were older than him. Just one of those things.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Friendly staff, and our waiter and his assistant very quickly learned our preferences at dinner and treated us very well. Didn't see anything of our cabin steward though. Sometimes it took forever to get waited on. We never were waited on in the Rome Lounge, and it just seemed like they were short on staff.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Carpet was worn, the layout of the ship was a little awkward. The size of the ship was good, but it seemed like it needs some updating. Often glassware from drinks weren't cleaned up in the public spaces. I saw glasses sitting on stairwells several times. And dishes weren't cleaned up from outside the doors of staterooms as frequently as they might have been.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved our stateroom! Plenty of storage. We were one floor below the Lido deck and food/pool, etc, so it was very convenient. Having a balcony was very nice. Only complaint was the noise from the chairs being moved around above us, but that really wasn't that big of a deal.

Ports of call

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

Hated this port. Dirty, lousy beach. Our son was excited about the guards with machine guns patrolling the beach. It was a little disconcerting to me, though, to say the least!
Don't Miss: Miss this port entirely!

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We went to Passion Island by catamaran. Wonderful experience! The beach was beautiful, the food very good, the staff great, there were fun things for our 12 year old son to do. We'd go there again.
Don't Miss: Passion Island

Pros: The band was great!

Cons: Seemed like they were low on staff

Recommends Carnival Triumph? Yes!
