Review summary

Review of the Carnival Sunshine (Charleston) March 27th –April 1st 2023. This was our 15th cruise, all with Carnival. We have sailed out of Charleston 9 times, 7 on the Sunshine and 2 on the Ecstasy. The embarkation process was very smooth and efficient. Ground personnel are professional and very competent. Parking is always free for handicapped at Charleston and that is a big money saver (Rate is $21 per day). The ship was built in 1996 (As the Destiny) and is showing signs of age but is still beautiful. The crew was top notch and professional. This cruise was a spring break cruise so we had many kids. We usually do not cruise less than 7 days and hardly ever with so many kids but they behaved themselves and I found most of them to be polite. The platinum/diamond pin has changed to the Miami design and that was nice. The gift was the koozie again and that was boring, we gave ours away to the first young cruisers we saw. Our room (#5344) was an aft balcony (AAC) and was both spacious and beautiful. Since our last cruise Carnival looks to have improved in several areas. The entertainment was much better and the food in the MDR, though limited in selection, was also better. The crew was constantly cleaning everything, everywhere and that was nice too. Port call at Nassau was very good. The improvements to the port are amazing. There are lots of police officers on foot patrol and Nassau has become very safe. The locals are still a bit pushy but if you say no thanks they will let you be. The following crew members made our cruise fantastic. A young lady that works at Pixels (Chutima) remembered us from a cruise we had on the Ecstasy back in 2017 and I found that to be amazing. She is a dedicated crew member with a cheerful personality. Our stateroom attendant (Johnson) was also fantastic. He made sure that he acknowledged our wedding anniversary with a greeting on our mirror and a special set of swan towel animals on our bed (Very unexpected and nice!) Joanna (Asst. Housekeeping Manager) met with us at our cabin after a small mishap during balcony cleaning and was very impressive with her knowledge, kindness and professionalism. The last but not least was Leon (Cruise Director). He made the military appreciation event very special at the end inviting everyone on stage to join him doing 22 push ups, signifying the number of veteran suicides per day. I was touched buy this act and this old Marine still had 22 push ups left in him (LOL). Overall a very nice cruise and glad to see back up to Carnival standards of excellence. I look forward to our next cruise in October on the Magic. Thank you! Sincerely Kevin Quinn
