@wildbill - They’re not “mythical.” We were on a free cruise on the Elation for last New Years Eve, and got comped one on the Adventure coming in 3 days and one on the Symphony in September. Drop money in the casinos and they give out free cruises. Lots of them. We like Norwegian just fine and still have a good time on Carnival. Carnival is great for a party cruise and their sail away parties are the best, but our opinion is Carnival’s shows are lousy (Flick in particular is dismal on every ship) and some of the food is inedible.

Never once had a bad time on any of the carnival cruises I've been on. Of course if you are looking for high brow, world class cuisine and entertainment then may I suggest Norwegian Cruise lines. They will gladly accept twice the money for the same Cruise. Then again maybe someday they will offer you one of those mythical "nearly free" quote cruises and you can go just to poke fun at the common folk.

Your review seems like a legitimate assessment to me. Most Carnival shows are at the “high school musical” level, and with some limited exceptions, the food pretty much sucks compared to other lines (though MSC likes to try to compete with Carnival there). But it’s a good cruise line if you want to party, and they work with children very well. We only go on them now when they offer us a nearly free cruise, which is almost daily via email.
