Great food, nice cabin, friendly crew, ship rolls & pitches.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We had a shuttle take us from our hotel to the port which was fast because it dropped us right where we needed to leave our luggage which was just a few steps from the first building you have to go into.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We ate early seating every night in the MDR and thoroughly enjoyed the food. It tasted so much better than the food we had on Island Princess last year. We also ate a lunch in the Havana Bar which has a very small amount of food to choose from but it had good flavor. We did not like the pizza: extremely thin crust, not enough red sauce and the dough was tough and dry. The Sea Day Brunch was excellent however where you are seated makes all the difference in whether you enjoy your meal or not. We had been seated on the upper level of the lower floor on the right side twice with Norman as our waiter and the service was great but then we got seated in the far back by the windows for breakfast one day and it was beyond horrible. We didn't get all of the food we ordered and if we asked for our grits or orange juice or toast or butter, the waiter acted as if he didn't understand English. The last time we ate breakfast/Sea Day Brunch I asked for Norman's area was told it was full but was given the left side of the raised area on the lower floor of the DR and we had a man from Romania who was very good. I would not ever sit in that back area for a meal again.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We didn't do any activities but they all looked like they would be fun for all ages.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The Motown show lacked creativity. All the performers did were sit on stools and sing or stand up and kind of dance to the music. That was boring. I had watched YouTube videos of the entertainment on Sunshine and had seen where the performers went up and down on risers, had dance routines, costumes on and there were pictures on a large screen as a back drop but not for the Motown. We didn't go back to watch anything else after that. Wasn't worth the 30 minute wait to get a good seat.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room steward was very friendly and helpful. He made sure we had ice every day and would always greet us in the hall in the morning and at dinner time. His name is Nyoman and his section is port far front. Hope you get him! Our MDR team was fabulous as well. We sat in the section by the rear door to Sunset (the one away from the Atrium).
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Everywhere we went was clean. We spent a good deal of our time in the Havana Bar at a table overlooking the wake.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
I had had a very uncomfortable bed on the Island Princess last year. It felt like I was sleeping in a hammock due to the valley in the middle of it but my bed on the Sunshine was comfortable. The AC worked perfectly and I did not have to use the fan I brought. I especially liked the lighted dressing table with stool. I'm spoiled now and want that on every cruise. I could sit at the mirror and put on my makeup while my husband got dressed/showered/shaved etc. in the bathroom.
Ship tip
Be prepared to take all of your luggage to the shuttle, bus or whatever you are using to get home or back to a hotel because there were no porters to help us with our luggage and I had to carry two bags and pull two heavy suitcases to our hotel shuttle which was most unpleasant because the shuttle was parked at the end of the long sidewalk from the terminal to the street. We were in the last group to get off and all of the porters were gone. It was the worse part of our cruise. Try to get off early or pack very lightly.
We did not do an excursion but do make sure you check several sites online before visiting here because different sites offer different tours/places to see. An "off the beaten path" site might offer what would suit you better if you aren't into regulated tours or walking.
The shops offered tee shirts, Bermuda logo items and some upscale jewelry, handbags, and clothes. We ate at The Anchor Restaurant and had the fish chowder, Rum Swizzle and a Dark & Stormy. Fabulous!
