Review summary

My first voyage on the Carnival Sunshine Ship. This may be my new favorite ship!

Embarkation

Embarkation was quick and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The staff in the Sunset Restaurant were excellent. Hanafi, our Head Waiter, made dinner a blast every single night. The food was also very good. The Tiramisu, in one word, AMAZING! The usual suspects, Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana Cantina, and Mongolian Wok were great as always. Overall, we were not disappointed.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
My favorite onboard activities included: bingo, the casino, and the music trivia sing-alongs in the Atrium (especially the Motown, 80's, and 90's sing-alongs).

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Mikey, our Cruise Director, is in a league of his own. He was so much fun, and his level of crowd interaction is second to none. We absolutely loved him! In regards to the music, in particular in the Atrium, and on the Lido deck, DJ Dawkness kept the ship rockin', he was awesome!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our Stateroom Steward "El" did a wonderful job. He was very friendly and personable. Our stateroom was always in tip top shape. We were very pleased.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The layout of the ship was slightly different from other Carnival ships, but I found it to be relatively easy to navigate.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The balcony cabin was a bit smaller than the previous oceanview cabins that we've had on Carnival. The room was very clean, and had plenty of storage. The bed and bedding were also very clean and comfortable. This was our first time having a balcony cabin, it definitely will not be the last. It was so serene having access to the views and sounds of the ocean, only a few steps away.

Ship tip

Early arrival to just about every event/activity is a must.

Ports of call

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
Amber Cove was extremely beautiful. We did not do an excursion.

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Grand Turk is, by far, one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The ocean is crystal clear as far as the eye can see. We did the "Rainbow Calypso Island Tour" excursion. We really enjoyed this tour. We rode across the entire island in an open tram. Our Tour Guide Adrian was wonderful. He was born and raised on the island, and provided a lot of interesting facts about the island history/culture in a fun and upbeat manner. We stopped and explored some of the local souvenir shops. The people were very nice, and were not pushy at all. We also traveled to the islands' historic lighthouse, and came in contact with some of the islands' donkeys where, with caution, we were able to rub and feed them. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to explore this beautiful island, I highly recommend this excursion. It was only $35/person for a 2-hour tour. I absolutely love Grand Turk!

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Unfortunately, disembarkation was very chaotic and disorganized.
