The sewage system on Carnival Sunrise stinks (literally), otherwise a great cruise.

Review summary

We really enjoyed our first cruise. We will never book on the Carnival Sunrise due to the problems with sewage. We will definitely cruise again and maybe with Carnival, but will keep a close eye on how they handle customer concerns. Guest Services failed miserably on this trip.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Not bad, but paid for an Ocean Suite which included priority boarding. Not well marked and employees, absolutely no help.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food good overall, but not great. Dinning room good, specialty restaurants very slow.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
2 small pools for 2500 -2900 passengers??? Not really usable, although water slide was fun.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Caught one good comedy show. Other live shows, musicians, etc. pretty lame

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Very friendly and professional

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Sewage gas occasionally bubbled up the sink and toilet. Guests on the deck below us reported raw sewage on bathroom floor and tub. We watched guest services (politely) tell one customer that there was nothing they can or will do to assist.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was comfortable for 3 adults. We had a suite size room; a standard cabin would not have worked. Porter was great and kept the room clean and beds made up.

Ship tip

Stay clear of this boat until carnival publicly announces sewage system improvements.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida Did not visit port

Boarding and leaving only

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
Catamaran and snorkeling was outstanding. Fun market area to browse.

Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island)

1 out of 5
Did no excursion, but they all looked subpar to other ports. The food was horrible. If you skip this, you miss nothing

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Horse back riding excursion was great. The island was small and begged further exploring, but 5 hour dock time prohibited other excursions.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
This was easy, baggage tags and well laid out instructions were left in the cabin to make it simple. It would have been excellent except that we docked at a different terminal than we left at and had a long walk to get back to parking.
