Review summary

Just got back from Sunrise (Key West and Cozumel) and we had THE BEST TIME! I was so nervous because of all the negative reviews, however, our experience was nothing but positive. This was our first time on Carnival, having sailed Norwegian only on our previous cruises. Sunrise is great for families with kids of all ages. Nobody was bored and kids were exhausted every night by 10pm. When we first got on, before our room was ready it was not pretty. Most of the passengers were on the main Lido pool deck and it was very crowded and very hot. And lines for burgers and tacos and drinks were long, but we didn’t wait longer than 10 minutes. So I was very worried that the rest of the trip would also be crowded. That was not the case. Once everyone got their rooms it was never too crowded at any one area and we never waited more than 10 minutes in line for any food, and bartenders were very efficient and got our orders as soon as we came up to the bars. So it looks like their staffing issue is sorted out because the ship was at capacity, but we never ran out of food at any given time of day and there were plenty of staff just standing around looking to help someone or clean up. The only issue we had was our bathroom in our cabin sometimes smelled like someone had just used it even though no one did, I guess that’s the “sewage” smell that everyone keeps talking about. But that was minor and again only sometimes. Hands down the best fun we had on a cruise and if I had to chose right now between Sunrise or Norwegian Sky, definitely Sunrise wins. Fun for the whole family with plenty to do, not crowded, and staff always available for anything you need.

If you’ve never been to Key West I highly recommend the Conch Tour Train. We learned so much information and history. Also Salty Frog for lunch is the bomb. Huge fresh oysters, great service and atmosphere. Priced just right!

Cozumel, Mexico
