Review summary

This was a great cruise. There is so much to see and do. The leaves were changing and beautiful. We personally messed up on a few things, but it all worked out. We would do it again.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
We ordered the airport transfer through Carnival. It was late and we arrived at the ship at 3:05 p.m. Two of us were disabled. My husband had to juggle luggage for 3 people from the bus to our rooms! No assistance was offered due to us being late. It was not our fault and Carnival should have had assistance available. Bad experience.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Good, was better than the past few times we have sailed with Carnival. Service was a little slow, but we were in no hurry and loved our servers. However, we were disappointed in the food received in the Steakhouse.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
My husband enjoyed the casino. Craft activities need to be held in a larger area. I was unable to find a spot in the small atrium. Too many trivia games. No really good spa offers.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Soul Bound was the best show and talent I have seen on a cruise ship. Kudos to the players. All other entertainment was good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had excellent service from both our room steward and wait staff. Other interaction with staff was good. We had a banging balcony divider and the response to fix it was prompt and friendly.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The layout of the dining rooms on the Sunrise is not good at all. The Sunshine dining room is really hard to get to, especially when the elevators are busy. The ship was clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a nice roomy cabin with a very comfortable bed. Temperature was good at all times. Our steward kept the room nice and clean.

Ship tip

Have patience with people and elevators. Respect the elderly and handicapped.

Ports of call

Brooklyn, New York

3 out of 5
JFK was a nice airport, although a very long walk to baggage area. The port would have been great if we had some assistance from the guys lounging around. No offer of help and bad attitude when asked questions. No one from the ship was available to guide or help us.

Boston, Massachusetts

3 out of 5
We visited the Constitution ship and did the On/off Trolley. After having to wait for quite a while on a trolley, due to others being full and rude people breaking line, we just got on and rode the route without getting off again. We were really disappointed and missed out on so much.

Portland, Maine

5 out of 5
Loved this port. We did The Best of Portland & Kennebunkport. It was a rainy day, but we had a great time and plan to return on our own to explore further.

Saint John, New Brunswick

4 out of 5
We did The 10 Best of Saint John. It was a good tour. The Reversing Rapids, Fundy Bay, and Marketplace stops were interesting.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
I did the Halifax & Peggy's Cove Tour. Our guide, Lana, was great. I wish we had seen more of Halifax. My husband did the Tall Ship tour. He enjoyed it, although it was wet and very cold.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was easy. They were running ahead of schedule. We handled our own luggage, due to needed to get to airport quickly, and we're able to get off ahead of time. Our friend had someone to help her, so my husband only had to wrangle our own luggage.
