Review summary

We were denied access because my wife didn’t have a Canadian visa. We are never advised she needed a visa. I spoke to a women at carnival 3 days before our ship was to sail. Told her my wife has a Washington ID card Philippine passport birth certificate and marriage certificate and that we have no intention getting off in Victoria Canada. I was told that it should be ok. Bad information.

Visa requirement are fully stated

That’s terrible. Relying on call-center workers’ advice about necessary international travel documentation… Bad call.

That really sucks but as others have said, you should have checked yourself. While you were on hold with Carnival you could have easily Googled and in less than one minute you would know Philipinos visiting Canada need a Visa.

Why didn't the ArriveCAN app alert you well before even heading to the pier to embark? Since the borders re-opened even if just transitioning/layover through Canada requires the app to be filled out, even if your feet never touch Canadian soil.

I think it's on every cruise line's website that it's your responsibility to find out visa requirements for every country you going to visit. I understand your frustration but ships have strict documentation rules.

Lack of proper planning, oops 😬

Sorry 😢

I really don’t think a lot of the staff on the phones (not just Carnival) have been trained well enough to give out the right info, they’ve probably hired new staff since the restart and they’re swamped with queries. Always best to check yourself online instead where the rules for your destination would have been clearly stated.

It’s always important to read and understand the requirements needed to board the ship.

Do your homework. Don't blame the cruise line.
