Review summary

We recently cruised on the Carnival Splendor to the Mexican Riviera. The ship is new, clean and well maintained. Functionally it was great. The bad part was the decor. I don't have a clue who designed it or, worse yet, approved it. That being said, it did not detract from our ability to enjoy ourselves on the cruise. Beds were very comfortable and the living quarters of our Spa Suite were great.

Food was average at best. Nothing was bad but nothing really was great either.

The comedy routines were great. Neither my wife or I went to any of the other shows.

Service and Staff

Excellent service by all. Our cabin steward went out of his way to make our experience great. Kudos to Roy!

Ship Quality

Quality of the ship is great. The ship was first sailed in 2008 and subsequently taken out of service because of fire damage therefore it's only truly been in service a little over 2 years. It's well laid out and has the nicest casino I've ever seen on a ship. Separate comedy club was a great facility too.

Cabin / Stateroom

We had a Spa Suite on Deck 11. It was great. Very clean and had good space. It should be noted that the balconies on this floor do not have a covering as it is the top floor for guest rooms. There was some walking noise above us but nothing too bad.

Ports of call

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We didn't participate in any of the excursions but instead just walked around town. The town was OK and the people were friendly but just like any port, be prepared to be inundated by the locals trying to sell something.

Pros: Service was outstanding and easily the best part of the cruise.

Cons: Decor of the ship is horrid. Food was mediocore.
