It was our 5th wedding anniversary and wanted to get away for a few days, just to break up the grind. It was exactly what we needed. Detailed reviews are below in their appropriate areas.
Carnival has done great by partnering with St. Jude's Research Hospital for fund raising on the last day at sea. The dancing for charity was great on Lido deck.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The food was excellent! The Ecstasy Dining Room Matre'D and staff were superb. The quality matched the previous 4 Carnival cruises that my wife has been on. The Lido deck food offerings had variety and we did not run out of choices for our cruise. However, I did not like the tea being used in at the drink stations. Very odd tasting.

Entertainment
5 out of 5
Not a lot of choices for clubs, but at least the DJ's did rotate through the various decades from disco up to the current club music. The live band that played at the Mirage Bar hit their stride after the disco sessions were finished in the dance clubs. The group did a wide variety and the area had plenty of energy and dancing. You have to pass through the Mirage Bar area to get to the Casino and we saw that most folks would stop and listen for awhile before moving on. We danced every night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Children's Programs

Observation -- Sensation did not have lots of children on the ship. The "Seuss At Sea" was a huge hit for the small kids with their parents. I had the impression that teenagers would be bored. I don't think that Carnival is doing anything wrong, it's just that teenagers are fickle creatures.
Service and Staff

Our steward was excellent!
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The ship is clean and well maintained. It is older and starting to show its age. It is the right size for the cruise offering and length.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The cabin was fine. It was an ocean view on Main Deck. Our plan was not to be cooped up in our room, so though it was small, it was adequate and met our needs.
Ship tip
The Carnival Sensation is one of the older and smaller ships in the fleet. The ship has enough activities for a short cruise like 3 or 4 nights but not for a longer one. The bathroom is compact and for you ladies -- there is no hairdryer in the room.
Happy Anniversary to you. Probably if you inquired at the front desk, they could have gotten you a hair dryer. I have always had one in my staterooms on Carnival.
