Review summary

We have taken many Carnival cruises and this was by far one of the most disappointing. We paid for the grand suite and what Was promised a garden tub amongst other things which none was provided. We ended up in a handicap room that had a door that would open with the push of a button. Having two small children this kept me up all night for fear they would push the button, walk out, when the door automatically closes to be stuck in the hallway. We asked if they could disable the door but no one ever informed us whether or not it could be done. We paid almost $4000 for this cruise and I am very disappointed in the service the food the room and all the promises that were made that were not fulfilled. We ordered strawberries in the room that were completely soggy and was told there was nothing they could do very disappointed in this cruise waiting to hear back from the cruise line will keep you posted. Before the cruise left we went to customer service requesting to get off the cruise and they said there was nothing that they can do for us if we left the cruise because you were dissatisfied. According to carnivals guarantee if the customer is not happy they will happily refund their money this was not an option for us.

Showing up aboard on a cruise and claiming that you did not receive the room that you booked is a lousy excuse. Before any cruise you are sent a booking confirmation advising you which cabin you had booked. If you took the time to review the material that you were sent prior to your cruise then maybe you would have avoided the disappointment completely.

You have no one to blame but yourself in this situation because if you had actually READ what carnival had send you, you would have realized the cabin that was booked and had time to contact Carnival before and change the cabin or inquire the category of cabin before you got on board.

Maybe next time take the time to review your confirmation before you go to save yourself the embarrassment of what happened last time.

God, I hope she isn't my travel agent.

@joann12 I completely disagree. As a 15 year old speaking, Carnival is MUCH better than Royal Caribbean for families. I hated RC. Carnival does provide a refund and a Free Flight home during the first twenty four hours of the cruise. This is on their website. Royal Caribbean is for wealthy stuck up people who can't deal with one or two children

I've been in GS U90 & U111 on the Paradise and was treated like a queen. Sorry you had a bad time.

You should get your TA involved to make sure you got the cabin that you had paid for.   I always look at the deck plans as I pick a cabin to know what cabin I get,  what is next to it,  above it and below it.    A ship cabin is like real estate Location, Location, Location.  With you tube and the internet you may even find film if your exact cabin to view.    A few min of homework can pay off big time.

I do have sinus problems but I have cruised on Royal a number of times, Princess and Celebrity and have never gotten sick. I end up with a sinus infection every time I cruise on Carnival

batch123    8 years ago

You might want to consider seeing a doctor or an allergist if you do in fact get sick everytime and no one else does.

joann12    8 years ago

I have traveled a lot on Carnival and now will only travel on Celebrity because I get sick all the time on Carnival. Carnival is the cheapest line in the industry. I have 3 upcoming Celebrity cruises because as I said I will only cruise on Celebrity. Sorry you feel I am unethical. My clients don't feel that way.

She's a platinum but doesn't recommend carnival typical travel agent carnival is the best

joann12    8 years ago

Have been that level for a very long time. But I cruise mostly on Celebrity. Only on Carnival with family or friends that can only afford Carnival. Cheap cruise line

MrsOneal    8 years ago

If you got sick on every cruise why did you cruise so much to get to be platinum? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Joeyb112    8 years ago

No shit you don't recommend carnival it's the cheapest ship and you won't make that much commission off of it lol

joann12    8 years ago

As s travel agent again I do not recommend Carnival to my clients. I am Platinum on Carnival and have gotten sick on every carnival cruise I have been on in the last year. If you are not traveling with children Celebrity is great but then anything better then Carnival cost more. You are all in titled to you opinion.

butch123, I've heard the same thing about Royal. From what I've heard is won't be trying Royal, it doesn't not seem to be kid friendly. I'll stick with Carnival 😆

Can't say I've ever heard of anyone ever saying RCI is better if traveling with children. That's a first. Personally, my experience with RCI was not that good and would not go back. I would say food quality was mostly equal, but Carnival blows Royal away on entertainment. They are the fun ship afterall. In fairness, the age demographic on Royal is much older. Made it difficult to get around all the scooters. And there was never much going on after 9-10pm ever.

I went on this cruise with my daughter and we had a blast everything from the food to the service was perfect

joann12    8 years ago

I agree with the fact that Carnival does not care nor will they give them a refund. May offer another cruise at a reduced rate. If so only cruise on Breeze,Dream or the Magic. These are newer ships and usually much better rooms and service. I do not recommend Carnival to my clients. Royal is much better if you are traveling with children.

Did you select your room or did you do a guarantee room in which Carnival selects it? If you selected it on the deck map it has codes next to the room number which would have told you it was a handicap room and handicap rooms usually has a handicap button to open the doors.

Bogus claims. If you're seriously afraid your kids would randomly get up, wonder "what's the hallway look like in the middle of the night?", open the door and lock themselves out, don't bring them to the middle of the ocean.

MrsOneal    8 years ago

With the Paradise being an older and smaller ship there are only 3 cabin options: interior, oceanview & suite. So if you had a balcony then you were in the suite. Sorry the cruise wasn't up to your expections. Maybe try a newer bigger ship for your next one.

Did the door have a deadbolt? What room was on your confirmation?
