Review summary

We recently saild on Carnival Paradise for the first time. We have sailed on four other cruises (Disney Wonder three times) and Royal Caribbean before. We chose Carnival this time as it was extremely cheap and needed to just get away. I was not expecting much from Carnival, but was presently surprised. The ship was clean and well kept. Food was good. Food Service was slow. Entertainment was not up to Disney, but was decent. In whole, the experience was good and it exceeded my expectations. We will try Carnival again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Good quality and variety of food. More seafood than anticipated.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Activities were very limited and of poor quality. For example, my wife went to a scrapbooking activity and the worker just read word for word from a handout. Evening Shows were limited (every other night) and of okay quality.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Found that the ship staff was very friendly, personal and willing to help out, with the exception to the staff in the sit down restaurant. Was very disappointed in the Waiter and the lack of service provided. We had open dining for dinner and service was extremely slow each night. We thought that it was due to the open dining option that we chose, but we spoke with other passengers and they were disappointed in the service as well. For breakfast and dinner, we opted to sit down instead of the buffets. The breakfast and dinner were at the same restaurant that we attended for dinner. We were very disappointed in the service. Waiters were not friendly and seemed to be put out.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was at near capacity and it never seemed crowded. Ship was clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were located on deck 4 aft. Some noise, but that was expected due to the location. Stateroom was of good size and very comfortable. Bathroom was large. Stateroom was very clean.

Ports of call

Catalina Island, California

Ensenada, Mexico
