Carnival Paradise

4 Night Baja Mexico (Los Angeles Roundtrip)

Sail date: May 23, 2011

Ship: Carnival Paradise

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Beautiful and clean. Smaller than other ships, but never felt cramped. Decor slightly outdated, but still pleasant. I had been concerned about the ports since I wasn't interested in Catalina and have been to Mexico numerous times. Shouldn't have worried--fun to get off the ship for a few hours in nice locations. Wait to book spa appointments until you are on the ship; the discounts are much better.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Ate mostly at the buffet; lots of options, great quality. Late night dining options were limited and busy.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Plenty of options, good quality (sometimes cheesy, but that is part of the fun). None of the bars ever seemed very busy--maybe a sign of too many options.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Quick, friendly service.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Public restroom by the pool small and not very clean; others were better. In my opinion, not very accessible to those with limitations. Great fitness area with loud music, nice spa.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
We were in an inside stateroom. Fairly big, good bath and storage.

Ports of call

Ensenada, Mexico

3 out of 5
An active person can walk from the port to the touristy area. Typical Mexico party scene and shopping, with enough to keep everyone interested.

Catalina Island, California

3 out of 5
Went in late afternoon for some shopping. A beautiful area worth exploring.

Pros: Exactly the right length, flexible food and entertainment options

Cons: Long check-in process
