Carnival Paradise

4 Night Baja Mexico (Los Angeles Roundtrip)

Sail date: February 21, 2011

Ship: Carnival Paradise

Cabin type: Oceanview

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Reviewed: 13 years ago

Review summary

The ship is clearly older, the decor was awful but it was well-maintained and very clean. The stateroom service was excellent but the overall temperature onboard, stateroom, dining room, etc, was downright chilly. No clocks int he staterooms was also unsettling.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The food wasn't very good, not much variety at all in the buffet and our dinner was frequently cold.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Not very many options for onboard entertainment and activities. The "shows" were horrendous - I have seen better productions by middle-schoolers. The comediens were fantastic, though. There was really only one thing to do at a time, if that, and most of it was lame.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The staff was overall friendly. Our hall steward was fabulous, our dining staff slightly inept but very friendly. Entertainment staff was friendly as was the photography staff. Bar staff was not so great.

Cabin / Stateroom

Stateroom was roomier than I had pictured, well laid-out, good location (upper deck, aft) and the service of the stateroom housekeeping was wonderful.

Ports of call

Ensenada, Mexico

Our Wine Country Tour was fantastic! The guide was great, good variety at the tastings, perfect amount of time. The city itself is a little sketych with TONS of panhandlers and hecklers. We did find a wonderful "out of the way" little bar called Tequillas - excellent fish tacos and margharits and the owner was there and chatted with us for over an hour. I highly recommend Tequillas over the tourist trap "Papas & Beer."
Don't Miss: Tequillas bar

Catalina Island, California

The port itself is beautiful and totally walkable - being only a few blocks along the waterfront. Lots of little shops, ice cream, etc. We booked an excursion - snorkeling in 54 degree water! Very cold, but the guide was good. Next time we're going Caribbean... The weather was very cool, lower than average for end of Feb.

Pros: Stateroom service, ports

Cons: Food wasn't good, temperature onboard cold, onboard activities and entertainment kind of lame.
